I'm in the market for a new set of irons and I've done the research and leaning towards the AP line. I'm a little worried though because they're termed better player irons quote unquote and my handicap is a 20. Would that exclude them for me?

I would HIGHLY recommend finding a Titleist fitter and go from there. From my own experience, I got fitted by a Titleist fitter and truly believe that's the key to having a good set of irons.

I currently have a set of 714 AP1s and IMO they are very forgiving and fun to hit.

Also , I thought the AP2s were meant for the better players and not AP1s but I could be wrong. When I got the AP1s, I was a 13 HCP and got the AP1s b/c of the forgiveness.

I haven't tested the new 716 AP1s yet but from what I hearing and reading, this could be more forgiving then the predecessor.

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Cheers

Chris is absolutely right. Finding a Titleist fitter is your best chance at finding the correct club for you. The AP1 irons are great and very forgiving but still give you the ability to work the ball. Keep in mind when you purchase a set that your going to keep progressing in the game of golf, that's why we all play. Because your a 20 handicap doesn't mean you need to hit the most forgiving clubs out there, the fitter can put the correct clubs in your hands based upon your swing and not your handicap.

As other have mentioned, go to a fitter. Also, regarding the AP irons being for " better players" I just think these things some people say are just plain silly. As a 1 handicap I just got fitted for a set of AP1. I have played mostly blades my entire life. I tried hitting the 716 CBs, the 716 Ap2, the 716 T-MB, and the 716 MBs. I hit all of these clubs very well. I chose the AP1 as I hit them the futhest and my shot dispersions pattern was tighter for this club than the others cited. Try the AP1 irons. You will be pleasantly surprised on how good this set is.
