Buying New Irons

  1. This season I'm finally pulling the trigger and buying new irons, wedges, 3w.

I've tried many different brands/irons and it's come down to two iron sets. Of course I'm doing my research and processing the pros/cons of each plus factoring my handicap (I'm a 10).

I just need some help making a good selection toward my game now and what I want to be in the next five plus years.

Want to reach out to other Titleist members and ask how you guys selected your irons.

What was the major factor in your next set? Forgiveness/blade? CB or MB?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

HIGHLY recommend getting fitted by a certified Titleist fitter to see what's best for you and go from there...

I made the mistake of getting blades one year (thinking I got game) and it was possible the worst summer of golf I've ever experienced. For me and I will always remember this, it's all about forgiveness and that's why I went with the 714 AP1s. Best irons i've own in a very long time and golf is way more fun when you can hit the ball well..

Best of luck with you choice!

When I set out to improve I wanted something that would kind of force myself to become a better ball striker, and allow me to shape shots so I started out looking for MB's. When I was fitted I tried miz, swoosh, and titleist in which titleist was best suited for me. In the fitting I had a little trouble with the 3,4,5 iron getting the ball up in the air so I ended up getting CB's in the 3,4,5 and the rest MB's. I'm upgrading this year though from my 712's to a full set of 716 MB's, and SM6 wedges.

I agree with Christopher H., get properly fitted by a CERTIFIED Titleist club fitter. I like to tinker and have a loft/lie machine in basement. Over the years I have helped friends with their equipment and have noticed that almost all the manufacturers equipment is significantly off from factory specs, and when the loft/lie are corrected it goes a long way to solving friends problems with their swings. The exception is Titleist, I've owned 3 sets of Titleist irons and when I checked the specs on these irons (loft/lie angle), they are "dead on" to factory specs. Its called quality control, something that Titleist understands. So go see a club fitter and get the appropriate Titleist equipment, setup for your needs. You won't regret it.

Agree with every one here git fitted !! but for me the ultimate decision was based off my misses. When I hit the ball perfect every iron preformed well MB,CB,AP2 but I looked at what happened when I missed it how much yardage did I lose how close off target was it so on so on , all the irons felt great but for me it was TMB 3,4,5 AP2 6-p that is worked best for me so In short go hit get fit and see what works best for you. Also hit outside so you can see what is actually happening in the air not just going off what a computer is telling you.
