  1. I have recently decided to take out one wedge and add an extra fairway metal (18 degrees to compliment my 15 degree). How many of you have done this before and what was your rationale for doing it?

    Thanks!

I have not done it. But at the top end of my bag I have 915D3 10.5*, 915F 15*, 913h 19* and 913h 24*/23* 4-iron. I struggled hitting my old 913F off the deck and had contemplated getting a strong hybrid since I hit those well. Tested the 915F and have no issues hitting it off the deck. If I were to add a 18* 4wood, I could see droping the 3wood if distance was about the same.

Chris, I went another direction: am playing a 913F 15* that I use on shorter holes instead of my driver (9.50*)and have three hybrids; 913h set at 16.25, 915h set at 19.50, and 816h1 set at 22.0 then my five iron at 25*. All the woods are set at .5 open which has help when I get to aggressive. I took out my 60* a while ago because we had a love hate relationship and thought a permanent separation would benefit us. Cheers, buddy. Chuck

The question is why did you do that? I took out my 15* 3wood and replaced it with a 18* 5wood. For me, I had greater confidence when hitting the 18* on par 5s and on tee shots where I needed to place the ball in the fairway. One might say that you are loosing distance, but on average I was making better contact with the 18* then I ever was on the 15*. I do have 4 wedges that are gapped specifically to compliment my game with the 15*. Try different combinations that would help you in the area of deficiency and you will find your ideal setup. Good luck.

Chris, I've never understood the need for 4 wedges. I play driver 15* 3wood and 19*h then 3iron. my low end is pw 52* 58* I just open the face of the wedges and cover any yardage around the greens...
See you this summer at the Team Titleist outing! Todd
  6. I follow Ben's rationale .... what are you trying to accomplish? Hit more par 5's in 2, more fairways ? Personally, I can hit it a lot closer with my wedges for birdie / par than I can with an extra fairway wood. Which wedge are you putting on the bench ?
