I would strongly encourage you to consider the AP2 and CB....both are very different types of clubs but as a 12 handicap I think you will love the AP2. If you really want the most forgiving club the AP1 is amazing! I loved them so much I did a hybrid with my 3 and 4 iron in AP1 and the remainder in AP2...

Go to a quality club fitter. My preference is the AP1's, but that's for my swing and capabilities. Titleist has fitting centers around the country. Make sure its an outdoor facility that allows you to see the actual ball flight. Some of these launch monitors are "suspect".

I would say you are right on the line of AP1's and AP2's. My opinion would be to go with the AP2's. They still have plenty of forgiveness for your off days, and will allow you to really go after some pins when you are playing well.

Another option would be mixed bag of 1's and 2's.

I recent switched to the AP2 for the forgiveness. You can still get plenty of spin coming into the greens and work the ball if need be. The AP2 is being used by tour players as well. While I think you'd probably enjoy the AP2's I'd suggest getting fitted just to be sure.

The 716 AP1 Irons actually feel really good and have great feed back. Ben Curtis on the Tour plays them. I play the CB's and am a really great ball striker. However, I have to admit the AP1 irons feel exceptional. The pro I work for just switched to them just because of the feel and the ball flight he was getting with them. He is a 2 handicap and plays them.

The AP2's are more of a players iron with forgiveness built into them. They have a more feedback when you hit them due to them being a smaller head and forged. They are a great set of irons and many tour players play these. They feel very good feel these irons you probably would struggle with if you had an off day, however, that is all relative to what your miss is. The AP2's would last you for awhile and you could easily grow into them.

All in all it is your choice and I would pick between the AP1 and AP2 as they offer what you are looking for. Forgiveness and some playability. The CB and MB offer very little forgiveness. I recommend going to a Titleist fitter, which you can find on this website, in your area and get set up and see which ones fit your game better. Hope That helps.

Go to a pro fitter and find out what shaft flex, length and lie you need for starters. I had a professional fitting done and was surprised at the results. Number don't lie. Expect to spend about an hour to a hour and a half and be open minded to suggestions to help improve your game. My fitter commented that about 90 % of golfers are not using the right spec clubs that fit them.

I really like the CB & MB line, but I just ask myself, "Am I better than Speith?" I might take a set out one of these days and try them out on the course if I ever thought seriously about it.

I play the AP2s and they are great, have some forgiveness, and are very workable. Only thing I like better on the others is the absolute pure shot when I'm spot on that day and the look.

Hi B.A. -- I understand your comment about being "better than Speith" ... but the same might also be said of Adam Scott who plays with the 680 MBs. -- After all, Speith is currently ranked #1 in the OWGR.

To me, it seems that if you are a moderately consistent ball striker and willing to put the time in to get the most out of clubs like the CB or the MBs, then go for it!

You just have to be willing to live with the mis-hits and loss of distance that comes with it. OR you could just also want to buy them because you grew up with something like them or really like their aesthetic appeal.

After all, why do non-Formula 1/non-INDY care drivers buy cars like the Mercedes AMG's or the Ferrari, etc.?

Notwithstanding this, a fitting session will indeed help provide the valuable feedback needed to make a more informed decision about which irons and shaft combinations to consider!

I like the analogy, Dino! And remember also that I said I might try them for a round or two eventually as I'm a huge fan of the MB & CB line as well. They are just so much prettier than the AP2.

The AP2 is good looking, but I'm not a fan of how the 716 line looks for the AP2. I have a couple 716 T-MBs (4&5) and love them, but my 6-PW is 714. I might have to try the CB or MB more seriously too!

I currently play the AP2s myself, but I also agree with your assessment about the 716 AP2s. It just seems to me that it doesn't have the same aesthetic appeal as the 714 line up.

I am going for a fitting next week. I am going to get fitted for the T-MBs (in the longer irons) and then am going to look at the 716 MBs. I practice for about 2-3 hours per week (in general) and hopefully, play 1-2 per week weather permitting (at least this time of the year).

I just love the feel and the aesthetics of the MB. As a kid, I played when cavity backs, perimeter weighted clubs, etc. were only for those with enough money to buy them because they were the "big new thing" in golf and as a kid, I had to scramble and take what I could get which was a blade style club!

I know that I do have some mis-hits with my irons, I do strike them pretty well and pretty consistently, and I do appreciate the support that I get from my AP2s on the mis-hits.

However, I think that as I keep putting in the time on the practice range and on the course, that I will enjoy the MBs. I may lose some distance with them on mis-hits, but I love the feel of forged clubs and I don't think that you can get much better feel than the MBs!

Regardless, I hope that we have talked each other into taking the leap into the MB line up or at least seriously testing and trying them! D.

I really love these clubs and this set! This is my first set of Titleist!

The T-MB's are awesome! Go a long way with great height. They are perfect for my game.

So the T-MB's and AP2's are set at the standard lofts, 3 iron 20*, 4 iron 23*, 5 iron 27* and the 6 iron 30*. CB's are bent 1* strong, 7 iron 34*, 8 iron 38*, 9 iron 42* and PW 46*.

No doubt, getting fit for your irons is an absolute must. That will also allow you to experiment a bit with the different irons.

I play 714 AP2 and love them. As has already been said, the 716 AP1's are incredible - much more feel/feedback than I thought to go with the distance and forgiveness.

The goal is to get what works for and feels right to you - enjoy the process and play well this year!

There is always the option of mixing your set with AP1s for Long irons, AP2s Short irons. I have a friend who mixes his set and it works for him. Best thing to do is to get fitted. I am always a proponent of forgiveness so that the bad rounds are still enjoyable. Hence, I would go with the AP1s.

The CB's are not hard to play at all. I am a 15 hdcp and hit them well.....go for those or the Ap2

Will need to get fitted. However, I see great deals on the 714 Ap1

I would encourage you to find a center that can let you try all the clubs. The ultimate test is how they fell in your hand.

The 716 AP1 is a very very good golf club great feel would highly recomend
