Here's a fun question. I am a "long ball hitter". In a recent demo day I worked with a Titleist rep just for fun and told him I am looking for a club off the tee. The three wood is shaky for me and I am not a fan of the TMB 3 iron I bought. His response was to ditch both and grab a hybrid. A couple of swings with trackman and he had me at 270+. Great!

Has anyone gone to hybrids to replace certain clubs? I was fitted for a H2 19 degree Motore Speeder 9.9g x Stiff for off the tee and something like 23 or 25 for the TMB replacement. My only concern, when I have to use the shot, is getting the 23/25 to stop on a green instead of roll off.

I still carry a 3 wood - which I think is a valuable club even if you don't feel too confident off the tee with it. I used to carry a 2 or 3 iron but replaced both with a 19 deg hybrid. I find it extremely easy to hit off the tee and I think you'll find the hybrid can be flighted higher than your irons. I love playing a high fade with it into par 5's.

If that doesn't work, just use Jason Day's 2 iron. Seems to work well for him.

I use to carry a 2 iron it was my favorite club of the tee on tight driving holes. A few years back I went to a 19 deg 913h an never looked back. It flies higher stops shorter and is easer to hit off the turf. I think you made the right choice. And will love it.

I use a hybrid instead of a 2 iron. For me it is also a gread club off the tee!
If you hit it right (with good hight) they stop pretty good on the green!

For a long list of reasons I am not a fan of any hybrids, Although I have not had the chance to hit any of the newer Titleist H line but I do have a friend (Titleist player) who plays on the PGA Latin America circuit and he loves it. Since I purchased the 915F 3 wood I have loved it off the tee, always pure with a little draw and penetrating ball flight. I have always topped hybrids regardless of the settings. I see the only benefit of them being easier to sweep through any rough. I would never hit one from a fairway, i still love the good old 2 iron for going at a Par 5. Different strokes for different folks.
  6. I alternate between a 19 degree 915 H1, 19 degree 915 H2 and 915F 18 degree club to replace both my 3 and 2 irons. The hybrids are great out of rough while the fairway metal helps me get those extra few yards on long par 5's.

    Hope this helps...

I dropped both 3 and 4 irons and replaced them with 19* and 24* hybrids. The hybrids are so easy to hit and very forgiving. I can work them a little bit in each direction and get them to land soft as well. Love'm

I just came across this post and felt the need to comment because I just went through changing out my 915 3 wood for a hybrid. I ended up getting fit for a 915 Hd 17.5 degree with a Rogue Black X and kicked it down .75 degrees for an ending loft of 16.75. I do have to admit I am losing close to 10 yards compared to my 3 wood, but just having more confidence standing over the ball with a hybrid in my hands instead of a 3 wood makes it worth the change. I would say whether it's a 3 wood, hybrid or iron you decide to go with, play something that you feel very confident with. There's nothing worse than standing over the ball with a club not knowing where it's going to go.
  9. The hybrid shouldn't have a problem holding the green if you hit it good. It will be high enough and have enough spin to stop fairly quickly. If you hit don't hit It good and it comes out low it will roll a mile but getting the hybrid up in the air shouldn't be a problem.

I play a 23 as a 4 iron replacement but mine is an H1 i think it has a slightly higher ball flight than the H2 and lands extremely soft on the green. I usually find my pitch mark within 10-15 feet from my ball on the green on soft greens even closer like it so much thinking on replacing my 5 iron with one too.

I'm not a long hitter, however I recently changed up my bag, I dumped the 3 iron for the extra wedge, P-52-56-60, I had my irons bent to maintain 4* loft increment throughout. (4-22* / 5-26*/6-P Std. loft), then added the 913HD 18* hybrid to gap my iron - 3 wood. The distance gapping turned out great for me and I now have more scoring clubs with tighter gaps in the bottom of my bag. I play my 915F 15* 3 wood at D-1 lower loft setting.

I've always been fortunate enough to hit my 3wood well, but I struggle sometimes with the long irons so I have been using a hybrid in place of my 3iron. I still keep the 3iron around though in case conditions call for a lower ball flight than the hybrid gives me. Plus, the hybrid just doesn't move through the wind nearly as well.
  13. I used to hate hitting a hybrid but I changed to a 90 gram shaft and it made a world of difference for me. But, it seems today hybrids are replacing woods rather than irons.
