i am in the market for a new set i am about a 11 handicap. i have a more than normal ball flight i hit all my clubs very high i was just wanting some input on what yall guys think

  2. I would say to go to your PGA professional and ask to get fit. He/she will get you to hit each of the titleist iron models and then you can see how they perform.
  3. I think with the right shaft combination the AP1 would be the better bet. I'm a believer in playing the most forgiving clubs I can stand to look at and the AP1's are pretty easy on the eyes.

Get fitted is the obvious answer but I was about where you are a few years ago and decided to go with the AP2. My thought process was, my swing is there to hit a less forgiving and more workable club, I just need to play more. It was a good choice for me, I was able to start playing more and I'm down to a 6 handicap and love playing the AP2s. I sort of want to go to a AP2-MB combo set now.

I had both sets I had a 714 AP2 and just bought the 716 AP1 i've came to the conclusion that I'm not a on tour so I'll take all the forgiveness I couldn't get to lower my score I'm a nine handicap AP ones are still at players club just a little more forgiveness on misfits I had recommended the AP ones with a bunch of different shafts options to fit your on tour so I'll take all the forgiveness I couldn't get to lower my score I'm a nine handicap AP ones are still at players club just a little more forgiveness on Miss hits hello I had recommended the AP ones with a bunch of different shaft options to fit your swing speed. Head over to your local golf retailer i'm sure they'll be more than happy to sell you a set. Oh and just said no TP ones are $400 less lol

    John B,

You did not indicate if you are satisfied with your shot height trajectories. If you are then a good club fitter can put you in a shaft that matches your existing ball flight. My biased opionion is to recommend the AP1. The ball goes further and is the club is more forgiving But you should go try both and see what you like. The possibilities are almost limitless with these clubs.

I grabbed the AP1's since they are more "forgiving", I am a 6 handicap and don't hit a bunch of bad shots. I play with guys that use both. Go hit them both and get what feels better to you

    I am a 10 index. 60 years old. Play 3-4 days a week. Love my AP2-716 in PW-7i, however, I also play AP1-716 6i & 5i & 816H1 21* for my mid-long irons. Perfect set-up for me. Consider a mixed set like this when getting fit.

You will hit the AP1's further, they are 3*-5* taller than the rest of the lineup. I play AP1's and love um. Get fit,the process includes trying them all, and see what you and the fitter like.

@johnB absolutely Ap1s ones have a higher trajectory just because Way to club is built there's more weight on the bottom for a higher launch EAP t Way to club is built there's more weight on the bottom for hire launch The ap2 having more piercing ball flight mainly just club is meant for shot makers who can change a trajectory and direction at ease but the best bet is to go in and hit a basket with each before you make such a commitment as we all know there's no return policy is before you make such a commitment as we all know there's no return policy on clubs once their hit. Hope this at some help

I'm a 6 handicap. I was in the same boat several weeks ago but decided to go with the AP1's and I'm glad I did.

After a lot of research I really couldn't find any benefits of the AP2 that would help MY game. Even as a 6 handicap I am looking for the ball to go long/straight and for the club to have forgiveness on off center hits....that's really all. I will sacrifice significant spin and workability for those things. The AP1 accomplishes that for me. In testing I was actually slightly longer with the AP1 as well, most likely because I am not hitting dime sized sweet spot shots.

My 6 iron spins pretty well, below that may be where you see a difference in spin between the AP1 and AP2 (and workability). However I don't mind some roll with my 4 and 5 irons.

Everyone is different, try them out first.

Well John, I am adding my proverbial "two cents worth" to the mix of discussion. I more in the same camp with Chris M. in that I was a low double digit handicap player a few years back (approximately an 11-12 HDCP).

I decided at that stage that I was going to pull the trigger on a new set of irons and went for a comprehensive fitting -- we explored all sorts of combinations involving the AP1's and the AP2's and various shaft options. My fitter really earned her keep that day with the various combinations and data feedback, etc.

Before actually purchasing, I asked myself some pretty fundamental questions -- how much do I want to play? Will I put more effort into my practice and practice times in order to work on swing improvements?

I then ordered the 714 AP2's with the recommended shaft options from the fitter. It is a forged club with a little less forgiveness but I have come to appreciate the club characteristics and what it has helped me do in terms of a more consistent ball flight, shaping my shots and consistent in terms of its distance (a much narrower dispersion pattern).

OF Course, I committed to putting in a few hours a week during the winter months for practice at the range and I still practice weekly sometimes more in the spring-summer months. My handicap has dropped to single digits (ranging from the high 7's to the high 8's) depending on my playing streak!

So in all of this, in my experience, I found that moving to the AP2's was the right club for me and what I wanted for my game. I have absolutely no regrets looking backwards, except for the possible regret of why I didn't make the choice sooner. I appreciate everyone has different perspectives, ambitions, goals and priorities in life and golf is no exception. So as nearly everyone here has suggested, go find a well equipped and certified fitter with access to outdoor fitting facilities and hopefully a good launch monitor like the Trackman to assist you in finding the irons that will best fit your game and where you want it to be.

And most importantly -- Have fun and enjoy the journey!

Really good point Dino, how much do you play and how much time do you spend on your game. If you are a very consistent ball striker go for the ap2 if you think they will benefit you scoring. If you need some help and like some forgiveness go ap1. I play the ap1 because they don't look overly large or have a ton on offset, just slightly larger than ap2. Maybe a combo set would be good to check out. Ball flight can be changed with the right shady so go get fitted if that's your deciding factor.

Agree in going to see a fitter. He/she will put you in the right shaft that can get the flight down. Can recommend the AP1s for you to try and might ask about the XP115 shafts, but a fitter can do you right. Cheers, Chuck

Try to get to a Titleist fitting center if you can. I went to a regional fitting center here in Texas. It was AMAZING. Got to hit ProV1's outside with a trackman. The fitter put me in a mix of heads and shafts until we found a combo that gave me the best ball flight. I've had the clubs about 6 months and my handicap already dropped a solid 4 shots.
