I have been playing Ap2's for years all models, considering going to ap1's just wondering if the larger look and cast feel is something you can overcome. Anyone made the same change? How did it go? 69 years old but still have 9'handicap.

Well Bob, I personally play the 714 AP2's and am considering moving to the 716 MB's and T-MBs. HOWEVER, I do read lots of positive comments on here from TT Members who have gone to the AP1's and are really liking the move.

CHUCK Z ... is one of the TT Members who can share his experience and is similar to you in age and handicap too. He used to play the 714 AP2's and recently moved to the 716 AP1s.

Would like to hear your experience and decision in the future!

I have played the AP2 since they came out. Last year I switched to the AP1 and altho they are easier to hit I didn't like the offset look at address and I hit them left a lot. I'm assuming because of the off set. I now am back to the AP2 again.

I made the switch from 714 ap2 to 716 ap1 and I've never been happier. The looks doesn't bother me. I can't really see the off set which was I big deal for me. The only thing that bothered me was loft on wedges (pitch and gap) which titleist bent to help with wedge gapping.

I went to AP1's after playing CG7 tour irons which look similar to the AP2's at address (small head and not much offset).

It is a change, at first the club head looked huge and way offset in the longer irons on the AP1's. I've gotten used to them now and could not be happier, very forgiving and I get better distance.

I will say I find it hard to take a divot with my 4-6 irons, and I feel like it may be because of the offset profile. I still hit them well I just tend to pick it cleanly with the longer irons.

Can't speak to forged/cast area of your question but I can't imagine anything better (feel) than a sweet spot hit on my AP1's.

    Good luck.

I haven't played the ap2 but do play the new ap1's, the top line is slightly thicker but in no way too large. The offset is there but nothing compared to some of the comparable competitors. As Andrew mentioned the lofts will be slightly stronger but the forgiveness and feel are totally worth the investment, I absolutely love the 716 AP1.

Bob, you're a good player. It all comes down to the sweet spot, and frankly, it's all about your feel. I would try to get a set or a few irons to try on the course, using YOUR preferred golf ball. Make a comparison. If you've been playing forged for many years, they're gonna feel different. Either way, with Titleist, you can't go wrong!

There IS a difference looking down at the thicker topline and slight offset. The stronger lofts also require an adjustment, and especially a new set of wedges.

The main thing that bothered me was the lack of 'feel' with the AP1s. Irons felt 'dead' at impact.

It really comes down to you. For every person that's fine with it there is another who just can't do it yet. Go swing some AP1s and see if they're for you.

    Bob,

I have the 716 AP1 irons and love them. When I was researching this purchase I had read many reviews which indicated that the size of new 716 AP1 were of the same size as the 714 AP2s. I played blade irons for 30 years and father time was catching up with me so I decided it was time to move on to a new set that would give me some added distance. I had not issue with moving from the blades, with no offset, to the AP1s. It wasn't that noticeable to me. As one other response noted, because this iron set is lofted "strong" you will need to consider properly gapping your wedges with this set if you decide to purchase a set of AP1s. A good fitter can advise how to gap your wedges to transistion with your irons. One thing you will notice immediately is how much longer these clubs are then what you have been playing with previously. Also, due to the added weight Titleist put in the sole of these clubs, you will notice how good these irons are from the rough. Good luck with your purchase.
