I am in the market for a new driver, should I spend the money and buy a brand new full price driver with all the latest bells and whistles, or should I buy one that is from a previous year and save money. If I buy a brand new one, in one year it will be considered outdated anyway right? Can a club that is a year newer be that much more beneficial to my game?

MP, It all depends on what your willing to spend and how well you play. I play every other weekend and I'm an 11 handicap. I bought a 915D2 10.5 degree as I'm getting older and wanted to be able to get it to at least 11 degrees. I think as long as you can adjust the loft and the lie you should be good for awhile with whatever model you go with plus you can never go wrong with a Titleist. I had a 907D3 9.5 degree before I updated. Good luck.

Hi MP, my suggestion is that if you are properly fitted for your driver and satisfied with the performance, then I would suggest that you keep it and play it -- your bag indicates that you play a 915 D2 ... so that is the most recent version (for now).

Yes, the 917 is due to be released soon, but I would seriously think that you will do fine with your 915 for a few more years.

One of the things that I really like about Titleist is that they are not in the habit of introducing "new and improved" every 6-12 months. They seem to actually go with a 2 year product cycle which is far more palatable to the everyday golfer.

I will say though that I had my 915 D2 in the shop for a re-grip and couldn't use it for the weekend, so I brought my older 913 D2 out of hibernation and played it. I hit it great all weekend! However, there were a couple of shots where I could tell the difference in clubs (on two missed hits) where the 915 would have been a bit more beneficial in terms of its forgiveness. But, all in all, I was pleased regardless. I will probably keep playing my 915 for another product cycle and look at something in the 919 series (assuming the similar product cycle).

I would suggest seeing a fitter with a trackman compare the numbers you may find that one or the other would better suit your game. Then again you might find the newer model just doesn't give you any advantage over the older one.

Cant begin to tell you how much using a good fitter has improved my game. I will likely never buy a club again without using a good fitter

I'm with Dino...you may just fine for a cycle or two.
I tend to do most of my upgrades mid cycle.
I like to see what the chatter is and how the newer models relate to my current game. Currently playing the 915D3 @ 9.5. I'll most likely play this driver until I can validate an upgrade... I'm still hitting the ball past lads in their 20's and 30's so all is good.

    Cheers,

Ok been awhile since I was commenting on TT. Here is my advice. Fitting! Fitting! Fitting! cant advocate it enough. As for model to model. There is and advancement on this years 917 that will probably worth waiting for. that moveable weight in the mid to heal section is going to change a lot for the dynamic of the swing and ball flight. But are you going to be so far behind the curve if you went 915. no absolutely not. here a testament to my current driver 915 D3 7.5 Adila Silver (125)XS Proper fitting. I was recently at a Cobra Demo day with a Flight scope. I hit all the new Drivers (including pink women's flex) best results were about 290yd carry with a long of 301 carry. and that was with their stock offered X-stiff shafts. Friends told me to buy the cobra rep was like "man that's tour length and speed you should order one" I pulled my 915 our and average carry was 295 over 10 shots and for fun I stepped on one and carried 311yd. total roll out was 326. Yes that was with a Titleist 915. not an M1 or Xr. or any other hot face driver. Now then back to my point proper fitting beats guess work. Titleist makes great drivers they just don't get the respect they deserve. I have loved my 915 and I would never turn you away from it. for me its proven performance. 917 I have no doubt will be better but Ii'm not going to gain 10 yards. it will be more about feel and ball flight that will make me decide if I want to change.

But those fairway though (I am drooling over those) I am still rocking a 910fd
