  1. Hello, I have a 917 D2 driver with a reg Diamana 50 Red shaft, stock length. I set the club at A4 to launch high but still need to get more spin. I'm spinning it about 1800 rpm. My average SS is about 84 mph. Are there any adjustments to the club that you would recommend to increase the spin or different shaft? PS my bad misses are pulls if that matters. thanks. Jeff

Hey Jeff - 1800 spin is actually an amazing number - are you launching at 11-14 degrees? I'm currently gaming a 913, launching at around 12 degrees and spinning around 2800 rpm (which is too high). In the 917 D3 got my spin down to 2000 and gained 12 yards carry on average. Have you been fit for that shaft? With these new lower spinning drivers, it's ideal to get fit to ensure your launch conditions are ideal. I don't know how much changing the settings will affect on spin. Good luck and enjoy the process!!

Did you get fitted for the club or did you buy it off the shelf? Might want to check with a fitter and see if you have the correct shaft. You did not say what the loft of you driver was, stock.

I am 70 years old, play a 915D2 10.50, SS 93mph. When I was fit with my current set up, Aldila Black Rogue 70 (stiff), my spin according to trackman was between 2000 and 2500. My Titleist certified fitter tried a number of shafts until we got the spin rate to that number. Understand with the 917s you do need more loft. The shaft is a major player.
  4. That's actually a really good spin rate with a driver... why do you want more if I may ask?

You might want to check with an instructor. I'm about the same speed with the M+ shaft. My misses are similar. My miss is tempo with arms in front of hips. I lose spin by losing extension with some chicken wing, coming through the ball flat instead of with an up stroke into the ball. When fit for the 917, my fitter also moved me from a 10.5 to a 12 degree head. The good strokes gained 20+ yards over a 913 10.5 with the S+ shaft. Lastly, the Pro-V1x will add spin off the tee.

For what it is worth, according to TM research they seemed to suggest that 17* - 1700 was optimal for all swing speeds. I would try to see what happens if you could get your launch above 17*
Have you tried the sure-fit weight in the heel or draw setting?
  7. Hello Jeff,

I am surprised you only get 1800 spin with a 917 D2 and a M50+ Red. I have the D2 915 and same shaft and get 3500 spin so am looking for a lower spin shaft.
Maybe try add 1.5 degree of loft?

    Regards

    What loft is your driver?
