  1. Just starting to play seriously, still hacking around at present with some second hand clubs bought many years ago, what set you you recommend as the next step ? AP2 716 looks favourites. Any comments.

    Hi Andy,

That's a great question and it would really depend on how much time you believe you will play and also practice. Even though AP2s are a mix of player/GI clubs (compared to MBs and CBs), they could still be hard to play with if you don't get out that much. What about the AP2s do you like? (They are great clubs, I have them in my combo set I had built)

Have you tried the AP1s? Or been fitted for a set of clubs? I would suggest to get out to one of the Titleist events and demo all the clubs and then get fitted to what works for you. You should be able to adjust most of the clubs as your swing and game change, so the set will last longer.

Let us know what you end up getting and how you like them.
  3. My two cents is simply go get fit and try to have an open mind doing it. I play AP2's and absolutely love them, but they are made for a "better" player depending on what that means to you. My guess is the AP1's will be more beneficial until your game progresses. Best of luck and enjoy the game!

That's about where I was 7years ago. Your best friend for you game can be a pro that can help you with your game and know enough about you to help you pick between various options. The AP2s are some of the better players' clubs and look great. But if you are still working on accurate ball striking, you might enjoy the AP1 which has been listed as one of the game improvement irons that can accomplish some great shot making. Especially less skillful players will benefit the most from matching the equipment to their swing in a custom fitting.

I play AP1's off a high handicap and aspire to a set of AP2's, I need all the forgiveness I can get so will happily wait eventually move a combo set first using my existing ap1 long irons.
