Has this ever happened to you before?

  1. On Sunday, my 915 D3 got undone (the screw came completely loose). No worries though, because a quick twist of my wrench when I got home fixed it immediately :)

Talking about it with my playing partner, he said that he noticed a small 'creak' a few days before it came undone, and advised me not to tee the ball balancing myself with the club, shown on the pictures I included. Buddy told me he snap a shaft doing that.

Now that I'm self-conscious about how I hold the club while teeing up the ball, my questions is: Has this ever happened to you? Has a club become loose, or you broken a shaft like my buddy? To be honest, I still do it when i don't catch myself, lol ;)

It hasn't happened to me, but my father snapped the snap on his driver days after buying one a few years ago. Thankfully, the manufacturer replaced it. For this reason, I never tee up as shown in the pictures for that very reason.
  3. Mine creaks when I lean on it too screw never came loose, the creak is just the sure fit hosel plastic

Honestly, the move in the GolfGuru image isn't putting THAT much pressure on the club/shaft at all. If your playing partner truly snapped it, they were probably using it for weight support or pushing against it to stand back up rather than just balance. Also, you'd have to consider the context... he/she may have had the club at a 45* angle while doing so, and adding weight as mentioned above, which may have contributed to the failure. I know when I'm bending down to tee up the ball, the club isn't being used for support, or a base to push off of.

I look just like the photos you posted. I always use my driver to balance myself while setting my tee into the ground. I don't put my whole weight on it. Never thought much about it except for not losing my balance in front of my foursome. I guess I've never had the screw come loose on my 915 driver. I always carry the wrench in my bag just in case though. I will be watching this thread to see if others have the same issue. I wouldn't think this would make that much difference. :)

Never broken a shaft, but the screw did come loose once on my hybrid. Probably not a good good idea to lean on any club that way. Too much pressure could put undue stress on the hosel.
I also routinely (every 5 or 6 weeks) retorque the heads. Have not had any other issues.

I am 230 pounds, and I do that every single time I have tee'd up a ball with my driver. Close to every day, for over a decade, and have never had a problem with a club adjustable or non-adjustable. That being said I'm sure it probably isn't great for the club as that isn't what it's designed to do, but I would guess at least 80% of golfers do this a few times a round, and if it were a big problem it would be well known by now.
  8. I check all adjustable heads before each practice session, and before each round. The screws DO loosen no matter who makes it, as far as snapping a shaft teeing a ball as pictured, I'm 6,1 204 pounds I tee the ball as pictured, I don't put really any weight on the club, it's just kinda there, just like leaning on the putter waiting your turn.
  9. I've had a screw loose my whole life. That said, the only time I've had a screw loosen on my driver was on another companys driver when I had not properly torqued the screw. As far as using your driver while putting your tee in the ground, you don't appear to be a huge person and I don't see that as being a concern. If you were to snap a shaft while doing that then I would think you had a compromised shaft to begin with.

Never had one come loose. Never snapped a shaft. Definitely lean on my club. In this case likely just a one off. It can happen, it will happen to some. It's no big deal (well snapping the shaft is) but I carry my wrench around just in case too!
  11. Thanks for the responds, guys. Yeah, I agree, it has never happened, and I am sure I did something wrong. Titleist is known to be the best when it comes to the adjustable hosel (which is why I made the switch ;) ).

That said, my buddy's driver was a png, and it broke by the hosel, and come to think of it, the reason why it may have snapped was probably because the stress his puts the club on his backswing by bouncing the shaft on his shoulder. Either way, I love my driver.
