Time to update the bag? Budget $1000

    I was an avid golfer back in high school (9 handicap) but haven’t had the chance to play much since until now. I’m wondering how much there is to gain by updating my bag. I currently have

    Driver: 910 D2 9.5° Diamana Kai’li 65 S 3 Wood: 910 Fd 15° Ahina 82 S Hybrid: 913 H 21° Mitsubishi Bassara R Irons 4-AW: TM R9 KBS R Wedges: 54,60° BV Vokeys

    I’m looking to get fit as I wasn’t before I’ve grown 4-5in since then and definitely want to replace irons (looking at used AP3’s and JPX 919 forged to get fit for) but could I keep the heads I currently have and just swap shafts? Also, would y’all recommend holding off until new models are released and price of current models drop? I’d love to get fitted for a brand new set top to bottom but my wallet wouldn’t and need to save money where I can. Sorry for the essay and thanks for reading!

    Since you are on a budget I would suggest you find a free Titleist Thursday in your area and do an iron fitting. The fittings will be transitioning soon from AP models to the new T series. Once you get fit you will get a better idea of which head style and shaft best fits your swing. If you can't pop on new, that info should help you in selecting the discounted older model. Then I would do another fitting on the driver as that club gets used a lot and you want the one that matches your swing the best. Good luck and welcome back to the game.

    The irons and hybrids can still be ordered in the 718/818 versions custom fit and the price has been reduced with the fittings moving to the T/M series next month. Likewise, expect the same situation around this time next year for the metal woods. While not much of a discount today (maybe $10 a club), the next series may carry a higher list price than the AP irons. Once Titleist stops taking orders for AP irons, then just the remaining rack sets will be available with "stock" configurations.
    You could get the TM irons reshafted, but with 10 year old technology and a price tag that maybe $50-70 a club, you may not gain much. Unless you wanted to get a TS driver and live with the reshafted irons for another year or two. Oh, the options are endless.
