  1. Hi all,

My current 909 has an Aldila Proto VS Regular 65 gm (as had my previous driver), for the 910 I'm ordering that shaft isn't available so the question is what would you recommend as a replacement.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Jim,

I recommend going and hitting different shafts in the 910 because everyone has different swing characteristics, but here is my 2 cents anyway. I played an Aldila Proto VS Stiff 65 gm shaft in my driver last year and was looking at the same situation you are. Yesterday, I finally got to hit the Titleist 910 and found the Aldila RIP shaft (stiff) to be even better than the Proto. I was getting longer carry and a straighter flight from it, plus it felt more stable throughout the swing. I have been forbidden by my wife from purchasing any golf equipment before Christmas, but needless to say, this club/shaft combination will be in my bag soon enough. Absolutely the best driver I have ever hit!

I'm opposite than Ken.  The RIP shaft had no feel for me.  I'm now looking to find a fitter who can save the sleeve and hopefully put it on a Rombax W 6W06 or possibly a Miyazaki Kusala Black 72.  My shot dispersion was good with the RIP but I just did not like the dead feel of the shaft.  Everyone is different which is why it is tough to take opinions on aftermarket shafts.  Some might like one shafts feel and others hate it.

I currently play another driver with the Rombax W6W06 and love this combo.  I'm just trying to find a back up and/or gamer that gives me the same feeling (shaft wise) as this setup.

  4. Hi Ken & Ted,

thanks for the replies, I'll try the RIP (as long as it hasn't got a low kick point....that's just a disaster waiting to happen for me).  It took quite bit of trial and (mainly) error to find that the Proto VS was the right one for me, now it's gone hopefully the new search won't take so long.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hi Jim, After talking with Aldila, they say that the shaft that is the closest to the VS 65 is the VoodooVS6.  It is a VS made with the Voodoo internal ribbing.  It is an upcharge shaft, though.

  6. Hi Cathi,

Thanks for the information, I've ordered one with the Aldila RIP so I'll give that a try first, no sure about the VooDoo's as the ones I've tried in the previous models I didn't really like that much.  Of course if the RIP isn't quite right it's alot easier to change than previously.

    Cheers,

    Jim
