I'm a 5 hcp and have played 990's for the last 8 or 9 years, had a fitting last week looking at CB or MB's, ended up going for the CB 4-7 and MB 8-PW, mainly because although I hit the MB's just fine the CB's will give me a little extra help on those off days. If I was you I'd go and get fitted at a Titleist fitter, preferably outside so you can see the flight and see what gives you the best numbers, I'd say CB's or even AP2, maybe even a combo set. At the end of the day why make a tough game even harder by not getting any help from the clubs, that's why even some touring pro's use combo sets and even AP2's as their whole set.

Whatever you decide I'm sure Titleist  will find something for your game, and fit you for the correct shaft for the right trajectory! Let us know how the search goes!

Ya, Dan is right on.  Go to a Titleist Fitter and try all of the Titleist models to see what you like and hit the best.  You still may go with some MB's but may like and fit better to some AP2's or CB's.  Even a combo set may be a good option.  Based on your handicap, some forgiveness in the longer irons would be my recommendation.  I'm a scratch golfer and I love the look of blades but went with 3-6 CB's & 7-PW MB's due to the forgiveness in the longer irons.  Let is know what you end up with and go test out the different models to see what is the best option for your game.

I think you are a perfect candidate for a full bag fitting by a Titleist Advanced fitter!  Check out the directory on fittingworks.com to find a pro near you.

I really don't suggest blades. More and more pros are moving away from them just due to the fact of any mishit puts you very short. I would look into getting fitted for something like the AP2 or CB. I'm a scratch golfer and play the CB just because they are more forgiving then just straight blades. Not to mention I like the flight of them and I hit them really well. My 8 iron is about 167 in the air flight.

So just go to a fitting day or a retailer and hit the demos they have. Remember to ask to hit the long irons unless you want to replace them with hybrids. Cause if you can't hit 98/100 4 irons solid you probably shouldn't have blades.
