When to change

  1. Good evening,

What’s the popular belief regarding the changing of iron sets? In 2021, I purchased the T300’s as a game improvement set. Over the last four years, I have dropped my typical 92-95 (+22 handicap) down to a more favorable (+8). I can attribute most of it to hard work and practice, but the T300’s without a doubt, allowed for a more pure, consistent striking of the ball. Friends have mentioned “cavity backing is the same as putting weights in boxing gloves.” That being said, most of them have a similar handicap and are using blades from various manufacturers. At what point do I make the transition to blades? I’m 39, and my club head speed is averaged at 98.1mph. Thanks ahead of time.

There are PGA tour pros that play blades and others that play T100’s and even T-series combo sets. If the best play whatever works for them, so should you. Maybe experiment with different T-series options with a good fitter but nothing wrong with sticking to your T300’s if you continue to be happy with the results.
