I am 54 and still relatively strong. I got fitted into a blended set of T series irons about 4 months ago. T100 9-7, T150 6 iron and T250 5-3 irons. I play a GT2 driver and 3 wood and have a TSR3 5 wood. Vokey pw, 50, 54, 58. My irons have the project X 6.5 shafts and I have X stiff shafts in my woods. I am seriously considering taking out the 3 and 4 irons and replacing them with a TSR3 21* hybrid. The gapping would be 3 degrees going from the 3 wood down to the 5 iron after I adjust the lofts on the 3 and 5 woods. I'm hoping this will be what I settle on but will always have the option to bring the 3/4 irons off the bench when needed. Does anyone have a setup close to this and how have you liked it?

What is important is what works for you. I don’t care if there is zero other players out there that share my set up. I only care that it fits my game. That said, I do like the idea of having multiple clubs to interchange within the set depending on course and weather conditions. I even do that with extra wedges to go from low bounce to high bounce grinds.

Yes of course but it's fun to hear other people's experiences. The bottom line is how it all works out on the course. I think the biggest challenge will be getting the gapping correct especially between the hybrid and 5 wood. It seems fewer and fewer people are carrying 3 and 4 irons these days. Having said that, there is something so satisfying when you hit a 3 iron pure.
