My round yesterday

  1. So my back was bothering me all last week, and I decided to not swing a club all week until the weekend rolled around. I had just purchased a preowned Rogue Draw driver that came in on Thursday, so this was the opening round with the new driver. I decide to play from the back tees and hit driver on every par 4 and 5. For context I'm new-ish and shoot anywhere from 93-104. Nothing special.

First hole, in my own head, and top it just past the red tees, poor decision-making ensues and start with a snowman on a par 4. I won't bore you with a shot by shot, but after that I was really crushing the driver, which is normally my biggest weakness on the course. It was just extremely forgiving, and got a bit more distance than my previous and borrowed png G10.

I was hitting the driver well, my iron striking was solid, and my putting was just ok. The real issue that day was the wedge, and this is normally my weapon as far as my skill level is concerned. I'm not sure what was going on, but I couldn't hit a full wedge or chip shot to save. my. life. Here are my stats for the round:

    5/14 fairways hit

    2/18 greens hit in regulation

    36 putts

    37 chip shots. Thirty. Seven.

    2 pars, no birdies

    Score: 107

I think I was really just in my own head. It was drizzling and the course was pretty soaked from the amount of rain coming down in New England, but this was just an epic collapse of my short game that I've yet to experience.

I can definitely say I'm itching to get back out and tighten up the wedge play, and hopefully nothing else changes too much for me. While the driver only hit 5 fairways, it was staying in play which was a big improvement over the normal round of 5-7 lost balls.
