We a group of guys called “The Fellas” normally play in Myrtle Beach every May, but due to the Pandemic we had to cancel our May trip this year. As an alternative we planned a trip to the Robert Trent Jones golf trail in Alabama near where I live. We had 8 golfers from Alabama, Indianapolis, Northern Virginia, Cleveland and Navarre Florida. We set out and played Cambrian Ridge on Friday October 17th. It was a beautiful fall day. We played the 18 holes of Sherling/Canyon and had a great time. After the round and some lunch we played the short course which is a difficult Par 3 course of 9 holes. Out of the 8 guys we hit some decent shots and had a little scratch on the line, it was a fun time. We come to the last hole which was 156 yards with a green that had a ridge running right in the middle with the pin on the slope to the left. I was next to last to tee off and hit an 8 iron directly at the ridge. It hit the green and rolled down the left slope and I thought it would be close. My two sons were playing in our group and my oldest said it’s in the hole. I didn’t believe it until I reached the green and there was my Titleist ProV1 sitting in the cup. It only took 40 years. It was awesome to have both my sons witness the moment. The even more miraculous thing was the next day we played the RTJ Capitol Hill Judge course and one of our group got a hole in one on the 3rd hole. We couldn’t believe it. All this and my oldest son won the trophy for the Bama Covid Open for 2020. Proud Papa indeed.
