  1. After playing golf for 50 years, I finally achieved my 1st hole in one. It is not like I played a few times a year! I played 4 years HS golf, 4 years college golf, 25 years of good amateur golf, went to the PGA qualifying school. For the last 45 years I have been a +2 to an 8 handicap. I have hit at least 50 pins, ripped out over 20 cups on the fly, came right down on top of the wicker at Merion GC. Everything but a hole in one. I just figured I am not the guy to have a hole in one. Well, patience is a virtue. With the pin tucked on the top tier, a good wind blowing in our faces, the rest of the foursome came up short between 8 -15 yards. I went back to the bag, took two clubs less, slightly choked up and cut a low iron onto the back of the green where it then caught the break and rolled back into the hole. Believe me, it was luck. 50 years of luck to be exact. But worth the wait. Proud to have hit a Titleist black, # 1!
