It was a hot, humid, overcast day in Columbus, Ohio at Jefferson Country Club. I was 1 over going into the 6th, a 230 yard par three with a 210 yard carry over water to a middle-right pint location. I chose 5 wood, aimed toward the middle of the green, and hit a high cut (I prefer to draw the ball) that looked good the entire way. We all knew that I hit it close, but our view of the bottom of the flag stick was obstructed by fescue fronting the green. As we approached the putting surface, my ball was no where to be found and it was at this point I finally realized that I had made my first hole-in-one after 20 plus years of trying.
