Penderbrook Golf Club in Fairfax VA, 10th hole, over the water. Scorecard says 200 yards from the blues but they were up a bit so I had like 185 to the hole. Took my 6 iron and hit a draw, initially headed right and then swooped back around and plunked it right into the cup. Hit the flagstick probably an inch above the hole and made a super loud sound. I’ve hit a flagstick before (that ball ricocheted off the green) so this time I was just hoping that it stayed close. The sound was super loud, and different than anything I’ve ever heard. My buddies started getting hype, excitedly saying “that might be in.” My eyesight is terrible so I couldn’t tell, I said that it might have gone off the back of the green. And I also didn’t want to jinx it. So I didn't start celebrating yet. The group on the 9th hole next to us called over and said “hey that might be in the hole, it's either that or off the back but we don't see it back there.” Our 4th player had to hit his tee shot so he rushed it and then we flew down to the green. My buddy ran up, and before he verified he turned and asked if I wanted to see it first. I told him to look, still not wanting to jinx or get my hopes up too early. He leaned over, paused for a second, turned around, and shouted “ITS IN THE HOLE” and I jumped into his arms and the rest of the group dogpiled me. I went to see it for myself, and there it was! A beautiful Titleist 2, sitting in the cup. Cheers and claps from the group on 9, and on the tee box behind us (everybody heard the sound and stopped to see what happened). I called my dad right away and told him the news. My dad had hit a hole-in-one, 40 years ago this month, his was also with a Titleist 2 ball. I still can't believe it, it's so surreal. That feeling, pulling the ball out of the hole…..best moment of my life.
