My home course was closed for the week for aeration, so I decided to take the weekend off and work on some projects. Thursday, a hockey buddy texts me and asks if I want to drive down to Poppy Hills for an early morning round. Seemed like the universe was telling me that I should play at least once this weekend!
We're the first tee time out, and after an okay first hole, I step up first to the 145-yard second. It's a slight uphill shot with a multi-tiered green. I tee up my ProV1 which has now lasted me the past 38 holes and take a look at the shot. I normally hit my 6-iron about 150, so I choke up a bit and swing easy. I hit it perfectly in the sweet spot and it takes off with a gentle fade heading right at the pin. It lands about 5 yards short and starts rolling towards it. One of the guys in our foursome yells, "It went in!"
I did a double-take to make sure it's not sitting behind the flag, and it definitely looks like it's nowhere on the green. It's in! Double high-5s all around and I cautiously make my way to the green. I confidently leave my putter in the bag as I see no ball on the green. I walk up and there it is! My 2nd hole in one ever, and 17 years between them!
