On Sunday 3rd April, a dream came true. I was playing in the clubs first comp of the year. A joint stableford competition. I was in a 3 ball with my partner Kirstie Keene and long time friend, Kate Earl.
I was playing on the back of a golf lesson, and my card reflects that too. It’s never easy, but I was determined to put into play what I had been taught days previous. You will note on the card below that there were a good number of ones recorded that day, but only one really mattered. We were stood on the last hole. Lancaster's (North West England) 18th is regarded as the clubs signature hole. It’s a fine par 3 to finish the round. The hole plays slightly downhill and you play over a beck and a deep bunker short of the green. A large tree guards the left side of the green too. The pin was 141 yards away. 8 iron in my hand. ‘Trust what the Pro taught you’, was ringing in my mind. I did. The ball set off straight for the flag. The ball pitched some four feet short and rolled slowly towards the flag. In she went! It was a truly joyous moment as my partner Kirstie was stood alongside me to witness this special occasion.
As we got down to the green, word soon got out and the assistant pro, Tom Pearl, raced onto the green to capture this special moment. It truly was.
