HI, the story starts last May 2021, when I got diagnosed with Oesophageal/ Stomach Cancer. After a long year of waiting to find out firstly that it was operable, then undergoing Chemotherapy followed by an operation in November to remove my Oesophagus & 80% of my stomach. I started to count my blessings, I am still alive and it was time to start doing the things I dreamed of - Like a golfing holiday!
I've been told not to expect to be able to function fully for a couple of years but golf is an obsession for me (which my Oncologist found out the day she rang me for our post chemo treatment in August and said it sounded like I was outside? I replied, yes, I'm out playing golf. She laughed and said that most patients struggle to get out of bed in my condition, especially on the high doses I had had. And that she knew she didn't have any concerns if I was able to play golf, in her words, that was a first for her!). Back to last week and the golf holiday I went on with my Nephew in Islantilla, Spain at the Double Tree by Hilton Islantilla Golf resort. On our fourth round on the Blue course, Hole 8, a 140 yard par three I hit my 5 iron ( my recovery has severely affected how far I can hit shots), I watched my ball fly off in it's usual fade, and thought, that's not too bad, it might make the green. My eyes are also not too good, so I didn't see it land. I turned to my Nephew Mark and he smiled and said" Let me shake your hand now and give you a hug, because I think you just got a hole in one!". Sure enough when we reached the green and walked up to the hole, there it was, my Titleist 1 - Pro V1X - 332 nestled at the bottom of the hole. Something I'd resigned myself to, was never going to happen, just did.
Mark said it bounced once, hit the pin about 6inches up and disappeared.
