Started out at a charity scramble on a par 3, #4 at Moon Brook Country Club in Jamestown, NY. As the low handicapper in the group, there was a short discussion about if I should hit first or last. I made the decision to go first after some debate, and another playing partner asked me what I was hitting. It was playing 147 yards slightly uphill, so I knew my 9 iron at a full swing would cover it, but the spin would most likely bring it off the front of the green.

When I mentioned I was going to hit an 8 iron, my playing partner said "Really?" and scoffed a bit, joking that he thought I was a long hitter. I got up, hit about a 1 yard fade just left of the pin and it slowly rolled back and to the right, and in the hole!

We started yelling and realized we should have the people playing the 5th hole run over and verify the ball was in the hole so we could claim the prize (a year supply of golf balls for a brand I don't play).

Not one, but two playing partners had doubts, but in the end, the first swing of the day sent my AVX into the hole and they didn't question my choices for the rest of the day!
