July 4th, 2022. We had just finished 27 holes when half our foursome was going to leave. I was also going to leave. The 4th person (he and I usually play at least 36 when we play) prodded me to stay for another 9. I hemmed and hawed about it, but decided to stay for another nine. I had just had a birdie, so I was feeling 'it' a little bit. Next hole, a bogey. Next hole, a rare birdie on a long par 5. Next hole, a par. Then we come to a 170 yard par 3, a slight slope downhill to the green. I pulled my 6 iron out of my bag and proceeded to hit a very pretty ball, high loft straight toward the pin. As my shot took to the air, my playing partner made a comment about how 'dialed in' I had been over the most recent holes. The ball landed on the collar in front of the green and rolled straight to the pin, disappearing into the cup. Been playing for 60 years, what a thrill! P.S. I shot a 76 that round. How cool is that, that I shot a 76 on July 4th?! (You know, 76, as in 1776). It was worth the wait.
