I shot my first hole-in-one yesterday (September 5, 2022) at Nicklaus North in Whistler. I am 50 years old and recently returning to golf after a 15 year hiatus with kids and work. I am a 16 handicap and have always played the Titleist Pro V1 - I love the soft feel and effortless distance.
The weather was beautiful yesterday afternoon and I made a last minute decision to jump into a open spot at Nicklaus North. We were playing from the blues and I started strong with par on the first three holes, a bit of a blow up on the fourth and fifth holes, and that's when things seemed to settle down and fall into place.
The 6th hole is a 155 yards over water to the pin and has a shared green with the 13th hole. I hit a crisp 8 iron. The shot was straight as an arrow (which is a bit surprising because I have been playing a bit of a draw lately) and tracking towards the hole. The sun was directly behind the hole and I could not see the ball on the green. I felt it was a really good shot but I did not imagine that it had gone into the hole. As I approached the green and still did not see the ball I began to think / hope that it was a hole-in-one. I did a quick check around the green and in the bunkers before going to the cup, and sure enough, there was my Titleist! I felt breathless, exhilarated, and completely out-of-sorts that I had shot a hole-in-one. Let the celebrations begin! We took pictures, videos, and a lot of high-fives with anyone and everyone on the course.
I continued to play well for the rest of the round and shot an 86 – which is a good score for me at Nicklaus North. When we finished it was nearly dark. We went inside for a round of beer and further celebrations.
I always thought that the Titleist Pro V might be a bit more ball than I need, however, after the hole-in-one how can I argue with the result!
