  1. I qualified for the club championship at Plum Hollow CC in Michigan the weekend prior. The semi-final match came on the following Saturday and I had just birdied the first hole to take a 1-up lead. Walking up to the 2nd hole, it's a par 3 and was playing about 138 yards into the breeze so I pulled 9-iron.

I address the ball, and as soon as I'm about to hit, a bulldozer doing construction on a nearby road decides to rev its engine. I backed off for a moment to reset and had a good laugh with my playing partner.

I address the ball again and hit one of, if not the best, 9-irons I've ever hit. It's on a rope right at the pin. We watched the ball hit the green, check, and slowly roll in the direction of the hole. My caddy is telling the ball to keep going as we watch it disappear, leaving me in disbelief. My playing partner is more excited than I am at this point as I'm standing there in shock.

We walk up to the green and sure enough it was in the hole, giving me a 2-up lead in the match. Went on to win the match 3 and 2, and the next day won my match 4 and 2 to win my flight in the club championship.

I also learned that the club has a rule where anyone who gets a hole-in-one buys a drink for everyone that day. The bill came out to $907 (couldn't I have holed out on a Tuesday instead of Saturday?) and I'd pay it all over again in a heartbeat.
