I always play premium Titleist balls. I have several dozen new Pro V1/V1X balls, but on Oct 26, 2022 the Pro V1 ball I was using was a like-new one a friend had found a couple of days prior and gave to me. It was a nice fall day here in Colorado at the Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Blue course. I was in the first group to tee off after a 30-minute frost delay. My best index this year was 6.0 after shooting my age three times in August (I'm 72). As fall weather forces long pants and sweaters, my handicap always creeps back up. So, I put this found ball into play and saved my new ones for warmer days. Bogey is my nickname, and that was how I was playing. I was four over after six holes. The tee was up on number 7...only 131 yards. I hit a perfect pitching wedge that covered the flag and landed just short, jumping in on the second hop. I knew I needed to at least break 80 so I could be proud of the scorecard (finished with a 78). Back to the ball: I will be displaying the "Dougie" inscribed ball (not my name) with the number 67. Sure wish I had played one of my own. This is probably fitting since my only other ace in 2008 was with a Pro V1 that I continued to play after getting a cart path ding on the previous hole.
