Tournament with Dad

  1. My first hole-in-one came last summer while playing in my hometown’s member guest tournament with my dad. Myself, age 26 at the time, had played college golf but has never had a hole-in-one. It was a 152 yard, downhill, down wind par three. The front left hole location is slightly guarded by a large tree. As it was a hot summer day and on our back nine, I hit a full gap wedge (716 AP2 set) high over the tree. The ball landed about 4 1/2 feet past the hole, spun back down the hill and dripped in the cup. My mom, who has missed maybe 2 tournaments I’ve played in my life, and my fiancé (now wife) were there watching us. My mom always takes lots of pictures, but rarely videos decides that shot was going to be the one she recorded. Although the video didn’t capture it going in, it felt surreal to say the least. I couldn’t have asked for a better situation that hitting my first while playing with my dad, on my home course, and getting to keep the low-ball 59 scorecard. Not to mention it came with a nice payday being the closest to the pin and a skin for the tournament.
