Every golfer dreams of a hole in one, but you never really expect it to happen.

Mine came at Mearns Castle Golf Academy in Scotland on the 4th hole, a 141-yard par 3. I pulled a 7-iron, made a smooth, confident swing, and caught it perfectly. The ball flew straight at the green, pitched just short, took a kind bounce and began tracking towards the flag.

As it rolled closer, it disappeared behind the pin. Thinking it had finished beside the hole, I turned to my playing partners and said, “Oh, what a shot!”

They looked back towards the green before turning to me with huge smiles. One of them simply said, “Think you should look back, mate… that’s dropped in!”

I threw my club in the air and sprinted down the fairway. Sure enough, there it was—my ball sitting at the bottom of the cup.

A moment I’ll never forget, and one every golfer hopes to experience at least once in a lifetime.
