Last Thanksgiving, I was playing the 12th hole at Cottonwood Country Club, a 462-yard par 5. I hit a driver, 7-iron into a blind, uphill green. We didn’t get to see the ball go in, but I knew it was right at the flag.

As we walked up to the green, my uncle, a former teaching pro, was in front of me & noticed my ball mark about three feet past the hole and said, “Looks like you flew it long.”

I smiled and replied, “Might want to check the cup, Old Bull.”

I’ll never forget the look on his face after finding my ball in the hole. Let’s just say he called me something I probably shouldn’t repeat online.

I still haven’t made my first hole-in-one, but I’ll gladly take an albatross as my first truly unforgettable golf milestone!
