“I’ve done quite a bit of [ball] testing and I’m just sold."

After posting four rounds in the 60s at TPC Southwind (67-62-67-68), followed by a clutch birdie putt to prevail in a three-way playoff, Pro V1 loyalist Abraham Ancer finally broke through to capture his first PGA Tour title this past weekend at the WGC-Fedex St. Jude Invitational.

Ancer, ranked 11th on the Official World Golf Ranking, had recorded five top-five finishes during the 20-21 PGA Tour season – so it’s safe to say he was due to capture that first win!

We caught up with Abe earlier this year to hear more on why he plays Pro V1.

“The ball performs in every aspect of the game. Around the greens, it feels the way it should feel – soft, you can put a lot of spin on it. And then on the longer irons, the spin rates for me are perfect. I can't find that anywhere else. The window the ball takes off of the club – I hit it, I don’t even have to look for it. I know exactly where it's going to be. And that, for me, it’s huge.”

“Consistency, especially in professional golf, your ball has to perform and be consistent. You can’t be hitting your pitching wedge 135 with the same swing and then hit it 140. That’s the difference between a birdie and bogey. For us, that’s the most important thing. And with Pro V1, I know exactly if I make the same swing the ball is going to be flying the number it’s supposed to be flying. So, for me, that’s probably the most important thing.”

Congrats again, Abe! Take a look at how he marks his ball:

It was great to see Ancer's first win on tour. Also, it's good to see that winning a tournament on tour doesn't require bombs off the tee. A quick look of his 2021 stats shows he's ranked 156 in driver distance with a rank accuracy of 7.

Like Ancer's game and knew his time would be soon. Glad to see him in the winner's circle.

He plays to his strengths and does not try to be something he isn't; he is simply a great ball sticker. Well deserved!
