Several years ago I broke par from the front tees(-1, 71), using nothing longer than 2i.

Shortly after I broke par from the middle tees(68).

This year(several years later) I started playing the next to back as my standard tee, early this year I felt good about 84, then I started a bunch of 70's I started not feeling good about 80. Couple weeks ago I shot 73.

Tuesday I went to OH, shot 89, 2 big problems, 1 hitting fade off the tee(hitting fade in general) cost me about 8 strokes, the other was putting, more specifically reading the greens, I couldn't see the break on these greens, I had more 3 putts in 1 round than I've had in 2 weeks playing every day. 1 minor problem, I've been carrying 2 wedges, and as always when I carry 2 I lose the feel for both, and I just couldn't get the ball close.

Wednesday, home course, I went to the range and got my fade back, I went to the practice green and did some short chips and pitches, got the feel of my 54.14. I chose the Vokey because there is no shot I can't do and I have an extended range with it, the 60 is distance limited especially in sand.

I started on the back, hit 5 fairways, 2 greens, 12 putts(1-3 putt) 2 birdies 3 bogies, 5 of 6 up and down. Par 5 11 started with a bad tee shot and ended with a 2 putt bogey, 14 was a fairway green 3 putt, par 5 18 also started with a bad tee shot and ended with a 70y attempt for up and down(failed). Par 3 12, 1 putt birdie, par 3 16 was an amazing high lob pitch-in for birdie.

Front, 1 was a short pop-it-up and let it roll to the hole birdie, 2&3 missed fairways failed u&d on 2, 4 was an impossible sand save(I'd rather be lucky). 5 fairways, 5 greens, 2 of 3 u&d, 1 sand save, 12 putts, 3 birdies 1 bogey.

I'm going to stick with 1 wedge, obviously the Vokey 54.14, I just can't get the feel of 2 wedges. And there is no shot I need that I can't do with the Vokey. In 9 attempts I had just about every type shot, hole 2 failed because of the putt, hole 18 70y was a shot I would not have attempted with the 60.

Now for some iron work because I'm missing way too many greens.

Wouldn't you know, 1 layoff day, switched from NXT to NXT Tour, went from -1 to +7

4 of 11 up and downs

Just lost all feel with one day off.

The big problem for today was hitting my irons thin.

Yes I was disappointed about 79, for a short while then I realized hey that was a 79.

Have to keep in mind that just because a couple weeks ago I shot 73, couple days ago 71, doesn't mean that is my skill level, my skill level is around 78-84, anywhere in that range I should be happy.

Still got to work on irons, and can't get back to the course until Tuesday.

  3. Wow! It sounds like you are developing into a great player!

    Thanks Chris

but I look at it as reaching the point just short of almost good.

and I still have 1 more tee to move back, current is 72/136, back is 73.8/139

Things changed, I got to go out today, but I had to play as fast as possible.

    80 41-39 6gir 8 fairways 28 putts 4 of 9 u&d 1 of 2 sand, 1 pitch in for birdie

the thins are about gone, now I'm just not hitting the ball far enough or too far when I club up, could be the cool damp air this morning.

Still no hooks, its been many rounds without a hook, still pull sometimes, occasionally a little unintentional draw or fade, no problem.

You might want to keep your 60 wedge in the bag, just for resque shots.
