Back in 2003, I was newly married and playing golf about once a week. My handicap had gone up since my pre-married days, but it was all great. Then twins arrived in May of that year, and my playing dropped to 3-5 times per year. I have no regrets giving up the game at all, but this year I decided to get back into the game. I joined a league and got my wife and kids (now 3 kids) into the game. I also took to replacing everything in the bag except the putter. I was still using irons and metals from 1998 (962 DCI irons and Titleist metals of the same era). My new gear:

    710 MBs (3-PW)
    910H 17°
    910Fd 15°
910D3 9.5° (this one is the newest. Most of the year was with a 909D3)
    54° and 60° Vokey C-C wedges
(My putter works too well to think about switching)

Anyway, to keep this short I want to give a big thank you to Titleist for providing some great equipment, fitting services, and advise here at Team Titleist. Calling me directly after a post here was a great touch, and I will remain a Titleist customer for a long time. The results of awesome equipment and a lot of hard work can be seen in my handicap graph:

Thank you Titleist for helping me reach my goal of getting back to single digits! Now I need a new goal for next year.

Most likely the modern woods w/graphite shafts shaved a couple strokes(most likely your old woods had steel shafts or some really bad graphite).

    The irons not so much.

I'd say "and a lot of hard work" was most of the improvement.

    Good Work

Great story and impressive graph Dave. I have a similar experience, but not as dramatic. I had brain surgery in 2007, and was a mid-single digit handicap at the time. Then, for the past 3 years after surgery, I could not hit the ball as well as I did pre-surgery. My handicap began to baloon up to double digits. Last year I was fit for a new set of AP2 Irons, and this year I replaced my driver with a 910 D3. A couple lessons and some dedicated practice time later and my handicap is back down to mid-single digits. I am equally impressed with Team Titleist. When my 15 year old daughter needed new irons earlier this year, they were extremely helpful in finding the right club fitter for her. She even won a city-wide tournament with her new AP1 irons. I have always been a loyal Titlesit player and Team Titleist only reinforces that feeling. And if you are ever in Cincinnati, let me know and we'll find a course. Bill

Thank you, Bill. Coming back from surgery to get back to mid-single digits is so great to hear. One of things I love about golf is that you so often can make and achieve goals for yourself, and it feels so good to get there.

I will definitely let you know if I'm in OH. The same offer is there if you are ever in the Boston area.
