So being from Colorado I know a thing or two about snow.  The problem with snow in New England is that once it falls it doesn't go away until St. Patrick's day.  I'm hoping our local meteorologist is full of it and the snow is just rain, but man, I can't believe it's that time already.

It seems like yesterday I was lathering up with sunscreen and enjoying my golf.  It seems like it's gone from shorts to pants to sweaters to snow in a week.  I don't know about you, but I'm sure not ready to pull out the skis and dust off the WII.  I was really hoping to keep golfing until December, but most of the courses close up shop on the first snow.  For the rest of you out there, are you still golfing? Is the season nearing the end?  Is anyone's season over (gasp)?

I was going to ask what everyone does to keep their game sharp in the winter, but I think I'm going to try to squeeze in a cold rainy round instead.  Best of luck toward the end of your season, and whatever you do, DON'T think snow.

    hey Josh,

Sorry man - but winter is approaching fast.  But snow already???  I live in NYC and I just try to keep playing and practicing as much as possible throughout the winter.  It's not ideal of course, but I can get a lot of work in on my game during the off season - I've played and/or practiced in very cold weather, and it's really not too bad.

Like you, I'd rather have a couple of more months of warm sunny weather but we can't control mother nature.

I hear ya Jason. FJ makes some great products that really do make everyday playable. I'll play in any weather unless it's lightning or snow sticking to the ground. I’m not scared of cold weather, but I’m not looking forward to it. There's tons of stuff to do during the off season, but I think we'd all agree that playing is way more fun than practicing. I putt and chip indoors, and I'm lucky to have a range that's open year round pretty close to my house. I also play some T Woo on the WII. It’s just too early IMO to be hearing about snow

It's official- Snow on the ground (less than an inch).  The good news is the sun is supposed to come out today.  Where there's sun the snow is already gone, so hopefully it'll melt the rest of this away and I can get out and swing the sticks today.

Me living in Chicago i've been lucky this whole fall..... Only once had i been not able to golf due to weather but what I do i during the winter is practice in a dome. I'm sure there is one by where you live and it's good to get out and swing during the winter. Another is go to Dicks sporting goods and say that you are interested in a club, then the'll let you use the golf simulator and you can hit a lot of shots with very nice clubs like the R 11.

Well it snowed, but it didn't stop me.  The course played well, there was just a little snow in the shady spots.

I feel your pain, brother.  We have 3 inches on the deck already and are expecting another 7 to 10... and it is only October!

Furthermore, I had a tee time after church tomorrow.  Sigh.  I was chipping balls here in the backyard this afternoon until the flakes came down.

    Cheers - Henry

Like Jake, I am here in the Mid West. Wisconsin has been well known for its cold climate. Just today, I played in mid 40's weather. Trying to get as much golf as I can while there is no snow yet. Cause once it falls, it will be there until the end of March.

To keep my game intact for this winter, I've taken lessons at GolfTec. Indoor instruction with video. I've also scouted some dome driving range and some indoor simulators nearby. There is also an outdoor range with heated bays if you really want to see some ball flight. Going often at Golf Smith and Golf Galaxy is a good idea as well, they have some demo areas to try out new/used clubs. And those stores have nice practice greens as well for putting.

I am still seeking approval from the wifey if I can convert our garage to an indoor driving range... for us fanatic golfers anything that can help us thru the winter will do! Good luck to us all!

Yeah I'll frequent some big box stores to "demo" some clubs this winter.  The carpet putting and chipping is a great way to keep the skills sharp, and lucky for me there's a driving range with some heat that's open year round.  I just think it's too early for snow on the ground.  I feel sorry for the folks in western mass.  They got 36'', and I bet that will be there till St pat's.  Hopefully it'll melt out here and I can sneak a couple of more rounds.

Hey Josh, are you local in Massachusetts?  Central Mass/Metrowest here.  I am hoping to get out this weekend to St. Mark's or Indian Meadows... and interest in walking 9?

Josh - I live in Ohio, and we have had a fairly nice Autumn so far. I am actually hoping to get out this weekend. I just started a new job 3 weeks ago, and am having a hard time taking advantage of the beautiful weather. With the days getting shorter and the air turning colder, I'll be happy if I play 3 more times before our snow falls. We are expecting a colder than normal winter, and the forecast is for more ice than snow. (YIKES!) I plan to work out, strengthen my core, and get in walking shape over the winter. Hopefully there will be a couple 60 degree days in Jan and Feb, as usual, so I can get out on a course. I have friends in Florida...

I actually got out and played in shorts today! It was 71*. I doubt it'll last much longer, but I'll take as many days as I can get. Now all I need is friends in Flordia
