    Hi Allen -

To keep it simple, your handicap is calculated as 96% of the average of the 10 best of your most recent 20 scores.  To get your handicap index and adjust for different courses, your index is adjusted up or down based on the difficulty of the course (slope) and the course rating (what a scratch player is expected to score).

The score is adjusted up or down fro slope as compared to the standard slope rating of 113 and the course rating comes into play as a differential from the course's assigned par.

The USGA has a lot of information on their website regarding how to calculate your handicap and all of the various adjustments and components.

Is there a simple way to turn a bunch of 9 hole scores into an 18 hole handicap?  I play in a 9 hole league and rarely get an opportunity to play 18 holes.

    Thanks.

Join your state golf association and you will be able to put in 9 hole scores. They combine two nine hole scores for an 18 hole handicap. The golf course that you play should have the information and yearly fees to join your state golf association. You can enter your scores at your "home" golf course or enter them on the state golf association web site and they should have an app that you can enter your scores on your smart phone. You can do all of that plus play in your state sanctioned golf tournaments. Check it out.
