It is an old cliché but play one shot at a time. When we get into trouble our tendency is to rush the next shot. Slow down and think of what is the safest way to get my ball back in play. Two wrongs do not make a right. I am assuming that on the back nine you got your ball into trouble and it steam rolled from there. If I am in the rough I have to ask my self, can I get the ball on the green from here 4 out of five times. If the answer is no then lay up to give your self a chance of getting up and down and no worse than bogey.
