I truly hope this affects only those in my area, however, yesterday was the first day this season that I had to wait before playing my round of golf.  I knew it was coming, I know it is inevitable, but it still hits me hard every year.

This is the time of the season (at least for me) where I use all the Titleist balls I have found this past year.  I use Pro V1 normally, but with the greens being a little less responsive I am now learning to play a little more hit and run style.  Tomorrow I will start playing the NXT balls, and will no doubt finish the season with the Velocity.

I am curious about how you treat the end of the season.  I realize there will be a big difference from those playing in the northern States (South Dakota here) and more southern States, but I think it would be interesting to hear the differences.

I remember the days at Meadowbrook in Rapid City when they would come out and saturate the greens with water before the first really deep freeze. Then with two holes in each green we would play through the winter. The ground was frozen, but it was still golf. Sort of...

I haven't wanted to reply because I hate to admit the 2014 season is coming to an end.  Yes, as the ground firms up and greens become less receptive, I'll switch from ProV1x to NXT Tour S in optic yellow.   I don't lose much yardage, but the short game changes as the ball runs out more than I'm used to.

It's still great to be outside on a crisp day, but I'm a hot weather guy - some day, I'll figure out a way to move to a warmer year round climate.

We had a lousy winter in Chicago last year.  I dread the thought.  But I'll play in weather down to about 30 degrees. Otherwise it's off to a dome to get some swings and stay loose.

Right now I'm scanning Ancestry.com to see if I have any long lost relatives in Hawaii that would want me for 3-4 months.  Wish me  luck.

I feel your pain. Here in Arkansas our season is almost year around as far as temperature but the big issue in regard to what ball to play for me is when the leaves start dropping. Our grounds crew do a good job of keeping the leaves at bay on the fairways but unfortunately these leaves end up in the rough and a wayward shot is usually lost where these leaves pile up. Like you I start playing the ProV and NXT balls I have found during the prime time of golf season. The new balls are put away until Spring. I have asked the question and the Titleist staff has said that their balls are good for play until you loose them. I have played many rounds with the same balls and have not noticed any performance loss.

Played the Vineyards @ Renault today in southern N.J. it was 43degrees when we teed off at 8:30. No frost yet, but you could feel the difference in the ball flight. Used the velocity and kept hand warmers in my pockets with some extra balls. It really seemed to work. Its probably an old trick, but I gave it a try. Give it a try.

    Keep em straight,

We played Bristol Harbour Resort in Canandaigua NY on Saturday Morning, when we tee'd off it was about 40-45...needless to say I bought myselt a Titleist Ski Hat for the first few holes.  But the season ends when the snow starts here in Upstate NY.  So we try and get out when we can from this point forward..its always a bit of a let down.

Living in Rochester I know your pain!

I played a few weeks back and it was in the 40s at 9am.  This past Sunday there was a frost delay at my club until 9am (i'm not sure if they made 9am or had to wait even a bit longer).  Winter is coming and I don't have to like it!  I already have the wife on board for getting out of NYS at some point in the future.  Warmer climates with year round golf here I come!!

Just had our first (hard freeze) here last night in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. Played yesterday with two light layers topped off with my trusty Dry Joys 3/4 zip. Cheers to another fine season of golf!
