As we all know clubs are not cheap but with Titleist you know you're getting your monies worth. With my current set, I can't sell or trade. I'm not locked into anything that tells me I can't do it but I just don't feel right and these clubs will always have a special meaning to me.

3 years ago I was selected to participate in the new 714 APs commercial shoot.  To this day I still talk about how great that experience was and really hope some day a lot of you get to share the same experience.  Here's a picture from that day.  Worked with some great people...

    Courtney, Nathan, myself and Joe....

So now the 716s are out and yes I'm looking to upgrade if I see improvements over the 714 (I'm hoping to schedule a fitting sometime next year at Manchester Lane).   So if I do make the switch, it's fair to say the 714s will be packed away and stored in my house.   It would kill me to trade or sell those clubs..

Am I right doing this? (Just wanna get feedback in case my wife gives me grief about holding onto stuff).

Normally I would say let them go but I can understand your attachment to this set.

With only way I would let these go is to someone  with the same desire for the game but less fortunate than you.  Who couldn't afford them. Then I would give them to him knowing the special clubs are still being special.

That's a slippery slope my friend! I currently have 4 sets of irons plus multiples of just about every other club as well. (Umm do I really "need" 11 putters?)

I find that if I spread things out  (basement, garage, trunk, family room, etc) I don't get quite as many dirty looks.

    Good luck!

    Chris,

When we form an emotional attachment with something, it's hard to let it go.  I would keep them and store them away.

I am playing my 712s and love them... But then again the new ones may give you that deadly confidence boost from that plain simple top line!

    Christopher,

What would be extra special is if Titleist would also forward you an MP4 or similar format type of video of the commercial to you and the three other TT participants.

I'm pretty sure that you could also put forward some additional merits that support your desire to keep the clubs for posterity sake. It's kind of like keeping a golf ball from a special round/shot, etc. except on a bit more grander scale -- like a most memorable couple of years!

Well, I hope that gives you some "food for thought" -- all the best,

    D.

I have a basement full of golf stuff, some of which never actually made it to the course.  I've held on to it for a variety of reasons, but mainly because I'm a golf nut.  I'm slowly turning my office into a place to display my golf stuff to at least justify in my own mind that it's not a waste.  Plus when you consider how little you usually get on a trade, to me it's worth more to keep.

Shoot, I can't get rid of my DCI's. I can appreciate your predicament.KEEP THEM. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely hang on to them!  The connection to them is much greater than any trade in value.  I am sure they will bring many smiles with the stories that will be shared...

I believe in letting someone else get the same enjoyment. I used to be one who hung onto clubs, I guess hoping to find the right buyer. A friend once said if you hold onto them long enough they will be worth a lot. WRONG. I had a set of the original silverback AP2s that I bought second hand and absolutely loved them. My introduction to AP2s. When I bought my 714 AP2s, I sold them to my brother in law who wanted to try them and it gave me a good feeling of introducing him to AP2s. I have one extra driver, one extra hybrid, one extra wedge, and one extra putter, all different from the ones I game and all Titleist products. Let them go and move on with the new clubs. You will still have your memories and stories to tell.

Christopher H., In a regular/normal instance, it's easy to say, "list it". But you expressed more than just a sentiment with those clubs, and after reading your post- the experience you all had with Titleist, I would do the same- I'd keep it. But then, again, you're the only one who could make most correct. Cheers!

    Chris,

My wife and I have that debate all the time. I replace my clubs with every new generation. As you can guess, that means I have quite a stockpile of clubs in my loft. They fill 3 staff bags!

Chris - I think you are right in wanting to hang on to them. You can always save them for your 2 boys.

I swing 804OS' now. I still have my DCI OS' out in the garage. I still tend to grab them and take them out every here and again. Love 'em... gonna stay with me for a long time I think...lol

    Christopher,

This is a great topic near and dear to my heart.  I, too, have a beautiful set of 714 AP2s irons, SM4s, 913 metals and 5 Scottys. But they weren't enough.  I just bought a new set of 714 MBs and a new set of 716 AP2s, 915 metals and two sets of SM5s and dozens and dozens of new balls.  I posted the old irons on Craig's list hoping no one would buy them.  I can't part with such great clubs.  I love all things Titleist!   Here's an even crazier story.  I have over 2000 used Titleist balls that I have refused to part with.  They are in my garage and I just love looking at them.  The only way I've been able to sell my older Titleist equipment is to totally use them up!  Play the heck out of them.  Do that and it might be easier.  No guarantees.  I feel your predicament.  #TT all day and all the way!

I still have my first set of DCI's that i bought years ago. When I upgraded to the AP1 714 I also gave notion to selling them. Thankfully I changed my mind. I have since re gripped them and handed them to my 20 yr old daughter who has found a passion for the game. They still look great and love the fact that she is keeping the tradition.
