I started getting a little yippi in my last few rounds with my conventional 35 inch putter and decided to go back to the long putter that was an instant cure for this condition a couple of years ago. Now before anybody starts harping on the new rule that you cannot anchor your putter, I want to make it clear that I am using a long putter but not anchoring it. The first time out I birdied three holes on the front nine and putted lights out over all. Who all is still using the long putter and have any of your playing group made any comments on the new rule about anchoring a putter ?

Am 69, play three to four days a week and still use a 35" SC select. Guess I am fortunate. I tried one of the long putters in a golf shop one day, just did not work for me. Went to a mid-size Winn grip and pulled out the 10gm weights and replaced with 15gm and started making a lot more putts. Current handicap 10.

If I decide to go back to a standard length putter I am going to get one with at least a 38 inch shaft, counter balanced and Super Stroke grip and try left hand low. Right now as long as I am putting lights out I'm sticking to my long putter.

An update on this topic. I play with a large group two times a week. Teams are selected by a random throwing of the balls and you play by handicap, two best balls per hole for the foursome. A partner on my team asked me if I was going to use my illegal putter in the Club's Fourball Tournament coming up and I was taken back by his words. I explained to him the long putter was not illegal but anchoring a putter was. He then commented that he did not care if I used an illegal putter but I thought that my explanation went right over his head. It's amazing to me on how many players don't have an inkling on the rules of golf. Especially one that has been in the lime light for the last two years.
