Team I need help ,I'm not saying I have the YIPS but, recently my putting has been horrible. My last round for example ....I shot a front nine 39 not bad right, we'll I 3putted four times!!!!!...the back nine was much the same except I let the putting effect everything else and finished with a 87...I've tried left hand low, switched putters 3 times this last 6weeks has been HELL.. Any suggestions or drills will be greatly appreciated....madgolfer

  2. With the YIPS, you MUST try the new Dual Balance putters by Scotty Cameron. They are designed exactly to help with that situation!

As Chris mentioned, a heavier putter will aid in taking the hands and wrists out of the stroke. If you haven't tried the claw grip yet, I would highly recommend that as well. I went to it last year after having a similar issue that you described above and haven't looked back. It tricks your mind/muscles into a smoother stroke. I know when I step up to a pressure putt, the only reason I miss is due to a bad read instead of "yipping it." We all know putting is all mental so the calmer your mind, the better likelihood of making the putt. Hope you can find a solution for you and get back to low scores!

Stick to or refine your pre-putt routine.
I had a similar round of 40 last week with 4 three putt greens.
    My next round post 40 was a -2 34 with 4 birdies.
You have to have faith in your routine and just keep moving forward.

I was feeling pretty beat up that day I posted 40 from playing Soccer the night before...I didn't panic...I knew my routine would get me back on track.

Hit the Putting Green up for some Fine Tuning.

Anthony, I had them for months. It was exactly like Ernie Els had a few weeks ago. I refused to change out my Cameron putter even though I have 6 different options. It's not the tool. It's your inner workings. There's a disconnect in the brain preventing the hands and body to react to the putting stroke. Anyway, long story short, I was completely confident that with time, I would work myself out of it. And I did! It was a glorious feeling. I just kept at it. Kept playing. And like a wound, it healed by small degrees until now it's completely gone. So, keep at it. Do not give up! Keep us posted.

I have recently had this problem as well. I really focused on putting with my shoulders and keeping my head still, which helped me immensely. Hope this helps!
  7. I had serious problems with putting about a month ago. I would shoot a 88-89 with 40+ putts. Your problem might be a mental issue. You have to step up to each put knowing that you are gonna make it. The worst thing you can do is to think about 3 putting because then you will just 3 putt even more. My coach gave me a drill to do that saved my putting. Get 9 balls and make a straight line with them. Put the first ball 3ft from the hole and the next 4 then 5 then 6 and so on. make all 9 then move to the next spot and go all the way around the hole like you are doing the clock drill. You should put from 4 different sides of the hole and the drill isn't over until you get all the way back to where u started. I did this 3-4 times a day along with a few lag drills and in 2 weeks my putting got a lot better. I now sit at 29-32 putts a round and my handicap is slowly getting better.

Mr. El's problems have got to be a classic case. Consider a session with a pro if it doesn't turn around soon. Before a swing flaw worms it's way into your head to become the _ips. (I can't spell _hanks either).
