Cheated on my AP2s

  1. This is more of a rant then anything else. I have been playing very well with my AP2s...shot an 81 my all time low and several rounds in the mid 80s. I've been playing with them so much and logging so much range time that I decided to give them a rest and go to my old iron set, Nikki Coverr forged irons. I hit them terribly for a few sessions and decided to retire them for good. I went back to the AP2s and it was like I never hit them before? A few of the range guys started trying to give me swing tips and now my game is a shambles. I've since shot a 94 and 98...I'm trying to shrug it off but seriously considering hanging it up for a few weeks to forget any bad habits I've picked up and start all over. What I'm having trouble comprehending is how I can go from playing the best golf with my wife to the worst golf in a matter of a few weeks? Anything like that happened to you guys? If so how did you deal with it?

I remember hearing about this one-time a while back... the guy dealt w/ it by doing the following:
    - taking all his change and putting it in his left pocket
    - tying his left shoe in a double knot
    - turning hit hat around backwards
    - sticking a tee behind his left ear
    - drinking tequila (remember Brownsville?)

Happens to ALL OF US, if anyone says otherwise they are lying. Find a way to clear your head and power through it on the range. You got as good as you were before with confidence in you and your clubs...You'll find it again.
  4. We have all been there!!! I had back to back rounds, shot 84 then 73.... The same day, with only an hour or so between them!
Golf is a hard game that is so full of tiny detail. If one detail is off it can feel like your whole game is ruined. But do be careful if listening to other guys on the range....if you want to get better, get lessons from a pro not a random on the range.

Hi Joel, I am experiencing the same issue as you are. I think best thing is to look for a Pro help you tweak back your swing. There are always ups and downs in this game. Hope it helps.

    Joel,
Sorry about the tough times on the course. I have fallen victim to this same problem before. One thing that helped me get out of the slump was forgetting all the noise that comes with worrying about my score and "just go play." I wasn't enjoying being out on the course, all I was consumed with was beating my lowest round. I just started going to the range and just playing and focusing on the next shot instead of my score and I actually ended up playing better than I had been (and having a lot more fun too.) Good luck!

Happens to the best of us, man. It's part of the game we play.

I would suggest taking a lesson from a professional. I find they are always good at giving one or two tips to help get the groove back. Don't listen to the guys at the range.
  9. My advice, for what its worth, is to find the thing in your game that you have the most confidence in. It may be putting, short pitching, bunker play? Spend the next week working exclusively on that. Look up a lot of specialty drills for that area of your game and spend a couple of hours a day at just improving what you already feel comfortable with and confident about! Also, spend the next week working on flexibility and core strength. No full swing drills but exercise balls, yoga, weights and stretching work. Hopefully by next week you'll find your full swing has returned to good form as well!!
  10. Years ago I played my home course with two strangers. They insisted on playing the back tees which were at a little over 7000 yards.
I played very well. While walking off the last green, one of the players asked me if I new what I had done. I said I new I played well but didn't know what I shot. He told me I had carded eighteen pars in a row for a 72. I was elated and couldn't have been happier.
I couldn't break 85 for the next two weeks to save my life.
    That's golf my freind!
  11. Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice .i've got a lesson booked for Friday with my swing coach.

Good call. A coach is a good thing. Now be careful that he doesn't try to fit you into a swing. He should be able to take what you have and just tweak some of the more obvious flaws. If he tries to change everything, walk away.
  13. A few tweaks and I'm back on track! I haven't had a chance to take it from the range to the course yet but hitting solid shots again and I'm optimistic. Amazing what a few adjustments can do for a golf swing...thanks guys!
