I agree with you Todd. Also just my opinion, FOX has still not gotten right when it comes to broadcasting golf and the US Open.

Sorry to disagree but I like the variety of the courses over the last decade. I would prefer a combination of open, links style course, with tree-lined more traditionally American courses.

if forced to choose between Darren Clarke & Curtis Strange or Johnny Miller...I will take Fox any day.

I don't think you are alone in thinking that, but I do disagree a little bit. Although Erin hills looks linksy you don't see the pros playing it like a links type golf course running balls onto the green a lot more aerial shots at Erin hills.
I don't think I would Call oakmont a links golf course and pinehurst has some attributes with the sand but it's tree lined and waste hazard lined not the fescue of a links course.
It is also interesting to see that nobody says anything when the us open is on a true links style course like pebble beach golf links.

Hi Todd ... I guess that I'm in the opposite camp. I've liked the course choices bevy the USGA.

Oakmont (2016) is one of the main stages for the US Open and if it looked more links like, it was because the course was "restored" to a more original condition. It was never designed to have so many trees on it and so the Oakmont establishment (ie: head professional, superintendent, etc.) started to remove the unnecessary trees.

I am really enjoying this year's championship too. I really like the look of Erin Hills ... it looks to be in great shape! I think that it is important that the USGA move the national championship around to various parts of the country. The championship and the game of golf belongs to everyone -- let's get it out there more!

Regarding the broadcasting Im feeling like its part USOpen and part BritishOpen. Love Zinger and some of the touring pro's color announcing but its far from consistent IMO. Joe Buck is just wrong for USOpenGolf.

Last years Open at Oakmont was not what I'd call a links course. Next year is at Shinnecock Hills which is a links style which will make it two in a row.

For me, I like playing the links styled courses and like watching the big boys go to work on them.

Personally, I rather like having the USGA Open play at sites where I can play. The PGA players are elite in both skill and resources to gain access to private clubs. The USGA wants to represent the average golfer. I'd rather they drop some of the great traditional sites like Marion and Oakmont where I will never get the chance to play. We already have the Masters that I'll never get to play. If the Open is to represent (all of) America, it shouldn't be at courses that only a couple of hundred club members have access. It made sense 116 years ago before the middle class took up golf. Even if it does cost $400 to play at places like Pinehurst, Erin Hills, or Whistling Straits - I still have the option to put them on my bucket list. Let the PGA play the exclusive courses.

I can't decide what I dislike more the lay out or the announcers!? I'm expecting at any moment joe buck to say number 12 is coming back into the game I agree it should be played more on course the avg usga golfer could play .

Heck, I can easily watch the Open with the sound on mute. Just because Nance does multiple sports doesn't mean Buck should. At least Nance lives along Pebble Beach and has 30+ years with golf. I almost wish CBS did the Champions tour so we could hear what it is like without Sir Nick next week while he is playing the AmFam next week. I don't have a problem watching links or woodland golf on TV. It comes down to the amount of skill necessary to win and not whether the top 4 finish the last 3 holes in 3 under or not to separate them. As the 2011 US Open champ showed, get into the fescue with a 60 yard wide fairway and a double becomes a real possibility. So far Erin Hills is a fairer challenge than a 14 stimp green with a 5 degree slope so a putt drops or rolls off the green.

I agree on Fox, not my favorite for golf. I think you are going to see more courses like pinehurst, Erin hills etc. There seems to be a big push/trend in low water more "natural" courses. Listen to the architects, they are trying to do little earth movement and let the natural lay of the land shape the course i.e "British open" courses. I am a fan of this for sure

I'm in agreement with public courses included in U.S. Opens Torrey Pines , Bethpage Black. Even the PGA of America is bringing their championship to TPC Harding Park in 2020. That is a good thing for the game of golf.

Not having trees doesn't bother me a bit. If anything trees block the wind and may over-define how to play a hole. the US Open courses don't seem to favor bump & run shots, as many Open venues do.

I like the course and I really like the graphics. Like seeing the ball flight toward the green. I want to be there.

I think that a mix is good. Links, Public and Private. I don't think that you should x out the traditional courses. When was the last time they played at Olympic Club? One thing that surprised me was that in 2013 Open was not played at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Francis Ouimet's groundbreaking victory. I understand that they played the U.S. Amateur there in 2013, but in my mind the scheduling dept. was asleep at the wheel on that one.
