Hey guys, I have a really important question. I need some advice from a PGA pro. I'm very interested in becoming a golf instructor, but I don't know how to get started. I plan on attending college in the spring, but I don't know what to do. Are there any classes that I would benefit from, such as business? Would I need to major in anything particular?  I'm just really lost right now. Feedback would be great!

Visit the PGA of America's website.   pga.com.   There are colleges specifically geared for the golf industry jobs.

After playing golf for 5 years and having a hcp of 6, you're a natural. Make sure the college you pick has a golf team and walk on. Next year you'll have a scholarship. By graduation you'll be ready for the tour.

College doesn't have anything to do with being a PGA teaching professional, however you can learn how to become one being on the golf team.

Some schools have degrees in Golf Course Management, that would be helpful getting a job after becoming a teaching pro.

Yes, business classes would be helpful. Horticulture would be  big +.

To find out the process for becoming a PGA teaching professional, you might try searching around on www.pga.com , or using the "contact us" at pga.com

    good luck

Go to a school with a PGM program.  If you have the game for it that's what you should do.  I never regret playing hockey, but if I didn't make a team in college I would have shot for a degree with a PGM school.  I'm pretty sure there's 100% job placement within the golf industry.  One of my close friends did that and he's on the fast track to becoming a head pro up in the Mountains.  I can't think of a better job

Information on becoming a PGA class A pro is on www.pgalinks.com.  There are university programs that you can attend to become a PGA Class A as well as working at a PGA facility where you can go through the PGA apprentice program.
