I decided to pick up golf again back in November. I have slowly been improving and was actually practicing chips and irons (up to 8) in the backyard when I can. My score has been steadily going down a couple strokes each time I play. The second to last time I played, I kept my driver (I snap hook or top it) and was able to get down to 103. Yesterday I played with hopes of breaking the 100 mark. It was not my day. Got there late and didnt have time to warm up on the range, felt like I was rushing the whole time, even after the round started. I don't know if I would have played better with a worm-up, but I know I would have been more relaxed. Ended up with 114. Here's to under 100 next time.

It's great to hear you coming back to the game we all enjoy. My general goal with regards to playing a round of golf is I usually get to the course about 30 minutes before my tee time. I find that at my home course, the 30 minutes allows me to adequately warm up before the round. For me, it more about loosening my muscles rather than gaining any new swing techniques (I devote range time for that). It sounds like you are heading in the right direction and I would recommend getting into a pre-round routine which should free up your mind from feeling rushed.

It definitely is out there, hopefully you find it soon. Swing fundamentals (lessons) and conservative shot selections will get you there the quickest. Don't forget, have fun out there!

That's this game for you. Just when you think your heading the right direction, golf happens. I can feel your pain. Been there, done.... well, still there. All I can say is the next round is another opportunity to put it all together. Good luck with your journey.
  5. Good luck Dugue4. Takes a while to get it back, but it sounds like you are putting in the work!

I know you're not looking for advice, but whenever I feel I am rushed into the first tee and noticed that the first three holes had been a disaster, I change my game plan down to even hitting a 5i on the tee sometimes and lay it up more. I may not score for another 3 holes, but this gives me the opportunity to calm my self down, for one. It also gives me a chance to groove shots and if I screw up it won't be as bad as a driver or any longer clubs.
More times than not, on holes 7-9, I'm able to ease back on serviceable shots and then hopefully have a fun back nine.
Like someone said up there, "It's definitely out there".

    Dugue4,
I shot 103 this past Sunday on a 13 HDCP. 56/47 I even had a birdie for the 56. Take your time and always relax & have fun. Your game will steadily improve. As for the snap hook or topping the driver. Slow & steady on the backswing & keep your head as still as possible.

    I know you'll get there,

Glad you are working your way back to the game. My game is on a roller coaster and I'm trying to enjoy the ride.

    Good luck, play well

The quickest way to breaking 100 is to play every par 4 as a par 5 and every par 3 as a par4. Don't try so hard to reach greens in regulation. Set yourself up for shorter, easier approach shots. The more you try to reach the greens in regulation, the more you score a 7 or 8. 18 holes at 5 strokes a hole of course obviously is 90. A few legit pars and a few double bogies will get you to your goal of sub 100 rounds alot faster.

Unless you are getting paid to golf, don't worry so much about your score. Just play the game, hit good shots, make some putts and add it up at the end. As others have said: HAVE FUN!!!!

Update: I played yesterday, and although I didn't break 100 (105), I did play much better. I didn't lose a ball (kinda, I'll explain in next paragraph), which was a first for me. My putting, which had been decent, wasn't very good. I 4 putted twice, and missed a 6 ft birdie putt 3 feet short. Next round is gonna be it...

A couple weeks ago I did the virtual ball consultation. I was set up with the ProV1X, which I was playing (second hand). I received 2 brand new 2021 prov1xs and 2 tour speeds to compare on Monday (Thank you Titleist!). I waited until the back nine to bust them out. On 11, I hit my tee shot with the new v1x and it felt the same as the 2019 v1x. The only bad thing is that it scuffed up pretty bad after that 1st shot (bad luck I hope). I then teed up a tour speed (still on 11) to compare and proceeded to slice it into a back yard. Later, on 16, I hit the shot to 6 ft. I decided to try out my second tour speed. The distance difference of the two walls was much more than i anticipated, about 15 yards. I hit the cart path behind the green and it bounced into thick brush (never to be seen again). So out of my 4 trial balls, I used 3 for a total of 3 swings. Here's hoping the other prov1x lasts a bit longer.

p.s. From the small sample size, I liked the tour speed
