My son is in 9th grade he plays on the school golf team and is 15 yrs old and he shoots in the 90's.  We live in the Pittsburgh area not exactly a hotbed for golf, I know but I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction to getting him started on Junior Golf tournaments and summer tournaments because he has expressed interest in playing in some tournaments.

West would be a good direction.  We have very active Junior Golf in California. My son is a top 10 yr old.  Southeast would be good too.  Orlando is a hotbed for golf development.

However, if you want to stay in Pittsburgh, I'd try google.  I see several junior golf programs in the Pittsburgh area but don't know which might work for you.  Look for fliers in large golf stores in your area.  Check out more than one and pick the best one.

    Good luck to your son.

I agree with Jerry.  Google will pull up so many options on Junior Golf tounaments  Also, check your local PGA section for upcoming PGA Junior Tour schedule.   Good luck to them both.

I agree with the above posts.  I live in Michigan and we also have to deal with the cold climate, but we have a lot of developmental tours for kids.  I think you will be surprised at the amount of tournaments available to him.

My son played in the Michigan tournaments for several years and started taking the game seriously at age 15.  He is now 17 and living in Arizona for the school year.  He made a high school golf team in Tucson and they finished 8th in the state tournament this year.  He will be playing in AJGA events this summer with the hopes that he will secure a D1 school scholarship after his high school season ends next year.  If your son is interested in playing serious golf, it is a great way to earn a college scholarship and these developmental tours will get him the experience he needs.

    Good Luck!

It sounds like you've been doing some research...great. If your son could get on at Oakmont and sharpen his short game/putting, on/around, those greens, he'll be in good shape. Something else that you may want to check in to...the First Tee. I did a quick search for you and they do have a location in the Pittsburgh area.

Good luck with everything. I wish your son the best! By the way...it probably wouldn't hurt either if you told him to sign up for Team Titleist!

Thanks I will do that does your son belong in the AJGA, IJGT or any of those tours? I don't see us moving from the area anytime soon (although I would like to) Thanks for your reply, and good luck to your son too.

CHRIS, IF YOU LIVE IN THE PITT AREA YOU HAVE ONE OF THE BEST COUNTRY CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY IN OAKMONT CC.  WHY DON'T YOU INQUIRE ABOUT  GETTING YOUR SON A CADDY JOB THERE. THAN IF HE LOOKS INTO A ASST. PRO WHO WORKS THERE I BET HE MIGHT HELP YOUR SON WITH HIS GAME. WHAT A PLACE TO PRACTICE YOUR GAME. IF HE CAN SHOOT A GOOD SCORE THERE HE'D BE HARD TO BEAT IN HIS GOLF MATCHES. HE ALSO WOULD BE MAKING SOME MONEY TO SUPPORT HIS GAME AND LEARN USEFULLY LESSONS FROM THE MEMBERS. MY SON DADDIED AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS HE EVER DID!!
