I have been thinking about my game after all of the great posts by everyone thanks and i was thinking when i play golf i never really feel confident on the tee box when i have my driver in hand. I can hit it ok i have learned to shape my natural draw but still i need to feel good with all of my shots. i have an 18 degree i-pro hybrid that i hit a stock 220 and i was wondering if it would be ok if i used it as a "driver" because i feel more confortable hitting it. i was wondering if you have any advice on what i should do should i stick with the driver or play the hybrid?

    Thanks

    Joe

I would always avoid my weaknesses and play to my strengths.  Obviously the driver is not the correct fit!  I would eject it, maybe throw in a wedge and go from there!

In the mean time I would make it a fun project to find a driver that works.  Getting fit can help.  One tip would be to take the exact specs on the hybrid shaft and find it in a driver shaft, minus 20-30 grams of shaft weight.  For example, if the hybrid shaft is 90 grams, Stiff, and 2.9 torque.  I would find the same branded driver shaft near 70 grams, stiff, and 2.9 torque.

Another perspective with a few other options. In looking for a new driver or just a new shaft. Do a Blind fitting. let them hand you clubs and shafts and never look at the lofts lies or shafts. I know a guy that plays a 82 gram R-flex couse the heavy club gives him consistancy. he lost yards on distance from the box but in reality he gained yards on distance from the pin couse he found more fairways. you may have to sacrafice yards for accurecy. But just find a club and shaft that fits your game. Option two. the old faithfull 3W driver. How is your 3W game. Alot of people hit 3W off the tee alot better. You could always get a 13 degree 3W and use it as your driver. Or If your comfortable just drop the driver all together and add the wedge. you'll proably never make a long par 5 in two but you'll be fair way the whole way. And Option 3 My Favorite this may coast the same as a new shiny club but will lower scores. Get Lessons. A good PGA Pro will work with you and help you gain the confidence with more clubs and you'll learn somethings you didnt know. I peronaly love the Pro option. Look at your Tour pros they have swing coaches. So if Phil had a swing coach right before the Farmers and finished a strong 2nd why shouldent an Average Joe have one to improve a game he'll play for life. Just a thought.

Are you comfortable  with the hybrid? Why worry about the driver. Keep using the hybrid and get a few lessons from a Pro  with the driver. I'm sure that the lessons will solve the problem and you'll have more confidence in your game.

A lot of good options here.  I would have to factor in the length of the courses you are playing.  If you are hitting the hybrid 220, just imagine how you would hit a driver that is properly fitted to you.  I know personally not hitting driver at all would take some fun out of the game for me.  There are a lot of options out there and the only way you will feel more comfortable with the big dog is to hit it!!!  Good luck finding a good fit for you.

I hit driver most of the time, but hitting a hybrid off the tee is a smart play. I remember when tw was winning tournaments while hitting 2 irons off the tee.

The only time i wouldn't hit driver is when a different club will leave me with a short  iron or wedge, like on short par 4's. Thats actually a quote from Hank Haney. Its so hard to shoot good on a longer course when you don't have a driver.

I guess its all about how much confidence you have with your driver, If you hit a hybrid instead of a driver, I would suggest just getting really good with your long irons.
