From what I understand the Golf industry is booming and there are a lot of options in the industry to consider for a career changer. Just wanted to get some of your thoughts on making such a move and any reccomendations of where I should start my research & education?

I plan on doing the same thing here very soon. I am VERY interested in what people's thoughts are about this as well.

  3. There are A LOT of options! It all depends on what you guys would like to do. Teaching, grounds, playing on a tour, rules, club repair, R&D...it just all depends. Do you have any idea what you'd like to do?

As far as working for Titleist, I've been trying to do that forever now. So, my guess is, that 1) It's pretty hard to get in, or to represent them 2) Nobody's leaving them, so, not too many positions available.

Guy's  nothing is booming about golf but the people on tours walllets. Wake up our wonderful game is in turmoil! Titleist is great company but even they are for sale ( Hoping for Mr. Kohler to save us). Get a good education in business and bring your game to the table as a offering to get inside if you are lucky enough. Many people are chasing the dream!

Great points Evan. Getting a B.A. in Business is universal... If it doestn't work out in Golf industry we can use it anywhere else.

Thanks for shedding a realistic light!!!

I'm with Evan. I've been playing the game since I was 10 (48 now) and tried a few different things, most notably software development for the golf industry, i.e. handicap systems, tournament management, etc., which I still do a bit today, but as a hobby.

I'm also a volunteer high school golf coach. My usual advice to the kids is to get a good education, then a good job, and enjoy the sport as an amateur - that's the realistic view. Making the tour is a million-to-one shot. You're most likely to end up struggling on mini-tours and playing monday qualifiers. The game's not as much fun any more when you end up like that.

    Whatever you do, good luck!

I am also very interested in working behind the scenes at Titleist. I think that would be the coolest job on the earth golf and Titleist combined!!!

How is the job outlook within the golf industry? Would it make sence to invest in the education & possibly get in with a manufacture?
