Getting my scores down in the high 70's from the next to back tees, seems almost routine.

This weekend is the club championship, I've signed up for the championship flight, which is no hcp, play from the yellow(next to back) tees. And as it stands right now, there will be rolling the ball(lie improvement, regulated cheating), but I've been playing the ball down in anticipation of a rule change. But now I don't see a rule change, last week we had no cart rules, this week(my week off) the storms hit again and it is wet, and it looks like it will stay that way. So far this year during my week off it has been the crappiest weather.

So Monday I shot 76, and of course I walked away feeling it could have been better, throw in a few ifn's this and ifn's that and I would have been under par.

So yesterday I started with a 44 on the front, +1 on the back thru dreaded hole 13(the +1 was on 10 with a 3 putt argh) then the horn sounded and that was that for the day. The 44 started bogey, double, par, triple(par 3), bogey(par 5), then things went normal. I just couldn't seem to find my swing.

Since moving back to the yellow my strategy has changed. From the blue I didn't use driver alot, and when I first moved back I used the driver more, now I use the driver less than I did from the blue.

For me to reach a par 5 in 2 from the yellow I need a few things, perfect conditions(which we haven't had this year), a perfect tee shot(which doesn't happen very often) and a perfect second shot. So chances of me reaching in 2 is pretty darn slim. So I've been using 3w on 2 of the par 5's. 5 I use driver to reach an area where I can see straight down the fairway, 11 I use driver to make my layup easier, I would rather be across the creek around 100y on an uphill slope approx the same level as the green, but if I use 3w I will most likely layup short of the creek around 150y on a downhill slope below the green.

So now for the CC, of the 10 others signed up so far I have played with 8 of them, and they are pretty darn good. 1 because we are playing from the yellow I have a good chance of beating, he's about 70 and doesn't hit the ball very far. And another that plays good but if someone is playing better he starts to fall apart, I beat him in matchplay a couple years ago(that day I played far better than my skill level and it was over after 14). The others I will have to be better than my best over 2 days to have a chance.

So I'm not going in with great expectations, I just don't wanna be last. Actually I'll be happy if with a 2 day avg of 80.

Well today I got a late start, I was playing on Titleist.com until 7:30. Forgot today is senior league day on the back 9, and they are really slow.

Got started at 8 on the back. This is amazing for me, the best side I've had from the yellow tees.

Shot even par 36, no bogies no birdies 3 for 3 up and downs 4 fairways 6 GIR. 6 almost birdies of which 2 were near pitchins.

Finished hole 15 at 9, a group of seniors jumped on 16, it took 55 min to finish the last 3 holes of the back. The waiting was wearing us down and had its first effect on me on 18 tee, hit about 3 inches fat with 3w, barely made the fairway. Then with ball well above my feet I hit a mighty blow out in the field of rough, about 150y from the center. Hit dead center of the green and missed the first putt by about an inchand tapped it in for par.

Off to hole 1, hs all over the front, about 20 min wait to tee off, hit it woods right, pitched out, hit right side of green, 2 putted for bogey.

Hole 2 pulled into left woods, poorly got the ball out still in rough, 200y hit woods right, pitched out, pitched on and 2 putted for a triple. Birdied hole 3, bogeyed holes 6,7,8 for a 42 on the front. 78 esc 77.

I saw 1 of the guys thats going to whoop me, he said that he played with 2 of the U players Sunday, 1 shot 66 and the other 63, and of course they are both playing this weekend.

thats some pretty stiff competition! just remember to relax on the tee and dont get rushed when waiting on a slow group

yep, them U players are pretty darn good, especially on their home course. Most of the guys in the championship flight live on the course and they will be under par, and most of them are older than me(or just look older than me).

Knowing I don't stand a chance takes a lot of pressure off, my goal is just play good for me. If I can hit the ball like I did yesterday on the back I'll real happy.

I have to go to the dr today, so I will have another late start, its gonna be hot. I'll probably spend the day at the course tomorrow.

Things got bad yesterday. Let me get all the excuses out now....it was hot hot hot, now I know why I always play in the morning. Good thing I had a water bottle and a gatorade bottle and filling them both every water hole. I was paired with an X-U players and a U player, both shot 69, the X just played a tournament at Valhalla and shot 68-69. They like to whisper while someone else is playing. What I should have done was tell them to talk or shut-up, just don't whisper. They also had a 2 girl gallery, which I was sure they would eventually do something during my swing, which always happens when there is a on-lookers for my group, they didn't make a noise. We started on par 5 18, that sucked, 3 par 5's in the first 6 holes played. The greens are amazingly slow in the afternoon, I could hear the ball crunching grass as it rolled, I couldn't get the feel for the greens, today I'm changing putters to an old Maxfli TM-S5 a great putter for slow greens.

18 3w missed right not bad, 21*h to 150 center, fat 7i to 2 inches inside the back lip of bunker, over the green, back on and almost save the bogey, double.

1 3w left side of fairway, 6i lands short and right but left of the cart path and the slope is back toward the green, see the ball bounce twice then couldn't find the ball, this is a place the ball shouldn't be lost, back and hit 6i again on the green 2 putt for double.

2(hardest hole on the course), 3w fairway, 17*h just off left side of green, pitch and putt for par.

3 par 5, 3w a little short in the fairway, 21*h too much around the dogleg in the rough, 9i didn't get close, LW decent shot just alittle out of my 1 putt range, bogey

4 par 3, this was nicely played for the tee and hole positions, thought about 4i but just a little bit of a pull and I hit the one tree, so I used 21*h went around the tree missed the green just left easy pitch and putt for par.

5 driver missed right which is wear I wanted to miss, I can see straight down the fairway, 21* 140y, missed the green, nice pitch into the slope kick toward the hole about 3ft short, missed the putt, bogey.

6 the easiest hole on the course I bogeyed due to missing the green then chunking my first pitch.

7 Second hardest hole, fairway green, 2 putt.

    8 bunker 2 putt.

9 another hard hole, missed fairway left(normal), missed green short, pitch to inches, par, and I take the tee box one hits the ball OB and the other 3 putts.

    10 fairway, green, 2 putt

11 missed left, poor shot with my 21*h under a tree, 4i pitch, chip and putt for par.

    12 green, 2 putt

13 Dreaded hole 13, 2 OB or lost, take your pick, couldn't find either and there is OB over there, 3w still left, ball on flat ground but well above my feet and I needed to hook around a tree, I pulled off the hook but didn't reach the green, pitch and putt for a quad 8.

I looked at the score and knew with some decent finishing play I could still keep it under 85

14 17* fairway, missed green, pitch landed right where I wanted on the baked out green and rolled about 20ft passed the hole, bogey.

15 Poor 3w, poor 21*h, poor pitch, good pitch, poor putt, double

    16 poor 4i, 9i, 3 putt double

17 fairway, poor 21*h way right in deep rough, took a mighty swing with LW and came up short, pitch and putt for bogey

    90 ARRRRRGH

Don't know yet where I stand(probably last), I didn't wait around, went straight home got in the cold shower and cooled my body down. Round about hole 13 I quit sweating and I was sucking down the water, the gatorade was all water. There is a water hole hole 16 tee and I filled both bottles and they were empty by the time we finished. I took a leak at the clubhouse and wasn't brown so I was still ok.

Today promises to be another scorcher, but I plan on playing a bit better.

It was a bit better on Sunday, 83 39-44, I think the heat got to me on the back, I had 4-3 putts on the back.

Dreaded hole 13 I still hit my driver fade even after 2 OB's Saturday, put the ball just left of center, then I screwed it up.

Didn't have to tell anyone to shut-up. Imagine that, the guys that don't play so well know how to behave.

I started next to last, I caught the guy 2 spots in front of me, the guy behind me quit on hole 17 when he would have had to drop and hit his 6th shot on the par 4. The guy 1 spot in front of me shot 79 Sunday, so he moved a couple spots.

We were waiting on the last group, who were way behind, and a storm was coming in. The manager said there was lightening 7.1 miles away and didn't want to blow the whistle. They finally made it to 18 and the lightening was on close, the manager blew the whistle.

So what did these guys do, in a electrical storm they went to a patch of trees out in the middle of an open area and sit under the trees. Why not go to the highest point with a 1 iron and hold it up and dare God to strike it.

For those of you that don't know, you don't get under natures lightening rods for protection from lightening.

I knew it was going to be awhile so I went home. I'll find out today if I got a skin on hole 1.

The hole placements on Saturday were bad, but nothing like Sunday, Sunday all the holes were 4-5ft from the edge(all less than a flagstick length).

Oh well, next year I'll get used to the heat before the tournament(probably not, it was just too hot to play).
